Hello,
I was reading an article in the Daily Mail the other day about pernicious anaemia. A doctor was quoted as saying that anyone on stomach protecting meds ie. Omeprazole should take supplements of Vit B12. I used to have a problem with absorbing this vitamin but haven't been on Hydroxycobalamin for over 7yrs. Just wondering if any of you out there on similar stomach meds take or get Vit B12 supplements?

Hi Its me again, its like you picked up a stalker! I take B12 and B6 and also a complex cus I have crohn's and it isn't possible for it to be absorbed too well. I also have omeprazole. The crohn's is asleep, be it lightly at times, but I don't know if the B vits help or not I just take them  xxx

    Hi Magenta
No don't take B12 but I will check with Dr next time I go. I was once told that veggies should take it, but I don't.
    Maybe we should be?
    Take care

    Hi,

I am also B12 deficient (pernocious anemia) and get the injections every 10 weeks. Currently being investigated for an IBD they think it may be Chrones.

I have thought for a long time that all these conditions are linked but each doctor only looks at their own area.

    Hi all,
I take multi-vits daily and good old-fashioned cereal to try and boost my vitamins. I'm going to have to bring this one up again with docs.

    Hi

I take Raprezole (tried omeprazole but found it didn't work) as I have a hiatus hernia. Not sure about the Vit B12 but will be very interested to hear comments on the subject. One more tablet to the mix wouldn't hurt! My GP has never suggested taking any other supplement except for glucosamine.

Anne, I know what you mean about Drs, they dont' like to step on each others feet. I must have 5 or 6 consultants now and getting them to talk is a nightmare. Thankfully my GP is good at bringing it all together.

I'm also waiting for a gastroenterologist to join the mix. I'm clear of Coeliac's but have had IBS since I was about 3. I need to be checked for colitis. I'm taking Vit D and B12 to help with autoimmune problems. B12 is new but the Vit D has made a big difference to other conditions. It does take months for these supplements to get into your system though if you take them orally so bare with it. If you are deficient (as opposed to insufficient) the Dr will usually recommend injections to give you a head start.

Hear's hoping that B12 is energy in a pill, I could certainly use some energy at the moment!

    Hi,

I have been B12 deficient for a while so i have been getting the injections for about 6 years. I was always told this was the only way you could get B12 into your body? I wasn't aware that certain meds could cause this?

So far I have had 2 colonscopies (unsuccessful) and waiting for a CT scan then to get admited for another colonoscopy under general. So far all the other tests have indicated Chrones but they want to have a look and see.

All of this is on the back burner as I am going in for my Osteochondralplasty on Wednesday.

I am lucky that i also have a great GP but if someone coud do research on the whole area that would be great.

    Anne,

I got so fed up that I found myself an immunologist who would see me as a person and not a condition. All my problems are autoimmune and once you have one you are more likely to get more. It was one of the best moves I made. I've had a full work up and a full immune panel run. A lot of possibilities have been ruled out which was a great relief and I'm waiting on 2 referral now for potential problems. At least I have a better idea of what is going on now and I feel in control of things. It's great if your GP is one your side though. Don't you find it so much easier when someone understands and you don't have to go through your complete history each time.

    Hi,

Did you have to do this privately or was it a referral? I don't have RA but FAI with secondry OA. From what I can gather my blood results don't show high inflamation but i realise that this does not always mean there is nothing wrong.

Think that is a great idea and think I would look into it once I have had my surgery.

    Thanks

    Anne
