Hi Deb, sorry that you are in so much pain, can't really suggest anything except to see the gp, I think that you might need a steroid injection or tablets, get as much rest as possible too, hope you soon feel better love Jaspercatxx0

Thanks Gemma and Jaspercat, the gp has upped my steroids again and given me sleeping tabs to tide me over. He is going to fax a letter to rheumy today asking me to be seen in a week. I have also just phoned rheumys sec to beg for help. I am desperate!!!!

Hi Deb,
So sorry you're having a grim time at the moment and I hope your increased steroids and sleeping tablets help.
I think you need to imagine arthur is stood in front of you and think of all the 'lovely' things you'd like to do to inflict pain in order to get your own back. Revenge would be oh so sweet.
Here's a nice cup of rosy lee to cheer you up.

Hi Deb
I am very sad to read your posting, I wish I could take away some of the pain. It is good that your gp has upped your meds and if you can get some sleep, while you do that, there is no pain. At least he is going to fax a letter to your rheumy. If you feel up to it, I would check that letter has actually been received. Do you have a rheumy nurse, like some areas do, whom you can phone and tell her how bad it is. I sincerely hope you get your appointment quickly. Again, if you have the strength, make a nuisance of yourself and hopefully then you will.
Hang on in there luvvy, it will get better, sometimes things have to get really damn awful before it all starts to improve.
Please call in on here as often as you wish and we will all do our very best to keep you buoyant.
Sending you cyber hugs,

hi deb, sorry you are suffering, flares really are horrible, especially if they last a while, but hopefully upped meds will help.
arthur certainly does like to try us!

Thank you all for your replies. It is helping, Legs I like your idea!!!
I am going to make a pest of myself as I really can't carry on like this. The gp says it is time to start methotrexate, and I think he might be right. I wish it wasn't necessary to take all these meds, but sometimes we have no choice. I can't believe how much pain I am in and feel so rough and yet still 'function'!!! Well, sort of
I am trying to keep positive, thank you all for your support.

Hi Deb,Sorry to hear you are in so much pain. I don't know what dosage of steroids your GP has prescribed for you but my last really severe flare up I was prescribed 8 steroids a day and I can honestly say they worked overnight. The morning after taking them almost all of the pain had disappeared.I am still on them but am down to one a day and will be off them completely this Wed.I'm still on Hydroxy and Omeprazole so hoping that once off the steroids, the pain won't return. My flare ups used to last three days but recently they have been almost constant and it was only taking steroids that I got pain relief.Hope they will work for you. That's right, Deb, begin to make a pest of yourself, get yourself well-known around your surgery and rheumy department, that enough is enough, you are in in the midst of all this pain, they are not. You had a bad flare at the end of 2008 didn't you? Have you had many since then?
None of us enjoy taking meds, you are right, sometimes we have no choice. What would we do without them is what i say, sometimes.
Keep positive, keep on keeping on, you will come out of it ok.
I am glad I am home, it is bucketing down here at the moment.

Hi Debs
Sorry you're feeling poorly. I'll echo what Elna said - you need to rest and it is a good idea to see your GP. Have a deep, very warm bath which will help to relax your muscles. I also find that keeping your joints warm helps too. It's been a bit windy these past 2 days and I find I need to wear socks; trousers and a couple of light layers.
I hope you feel better soon.
Regards

sorry you have not been well. i really hope that the increase in meds helps and that you get some sleep. it's amazing how you feel so much better when you can sleep properly.
sending you my best thoughts and a big hug0 -
Hi Debatat
I think I know what you are going through. As soon as I think I have everything under control, another part of my body is affected
Even though I saw my GP last week and I felt OK, he said I needed to stay on a very low steroid dose, 2.5 mg a day. "In case you get a flare up" he said. Have just walked round Tescos shopping with my other half, limping because all my muscles in my legs felt week and my right knee was hurting. My hands and arms are constantly painful now, oh it goes on and on.
Anyway, do hope you get some relief very soon
Would a hug help???? Perhaps not, it hurt's to hug me at the moment.
keep your chin up

Elna, I have been flaring it feels constantly since September last year, I have just got worse and worse with only a couple of good days inbetween. I have never had so many infections which then trigger a flare. It has got a real hold now in every joint, even my achilles tendons are up!!!! I usually pick up a bit when the weather warms up, but this year has made no difference and I am dreading the winter! Thanks for your concern. Hope you are ok.

Hi Deb
I am positively, not aching one jot, when I read your messages. I really do feel for you. Constant pain and lack of sleep drags you down into the pits. I read that you had a bad flare at the end of last year. I cannot believe that you have soldiered on all this time with next to no improvement and only getting more run down and worse.
You will have to bang on the door of the medics now. This cannot go on any longer. I really hope that you can muster up the courage and strength to start shouting - enough is enough, don't you agree? I was going to say, start laying on how bad the pain is, to the medics, but I have a strong suspicion that how you feel on the scale of pain is probably 9 - 10 out of 10 so cannot be any worse. Tell them that, it may make them sit up in their chair and take more notice.
I do hope you get this appointment quickly and you begin to receive the help you require which is long overdue.
Luv

Morning all, I took my sleeping tablet zopiclone last night as well as the amitriptyline and I managed to get some sleep, the pain still woke me up but I was able to go back to sleep, thankfully. I feel much more like me today and able to cope. I shall be pestering the rheumy sec today again, poor woman!!! As the pain just will not go.
Elna, it is amazing what you get used to and just learn to live with!
Cris, I have missed you and wondered where you were, hope you are well.
Everybody else thank you all for your well wishes and I hope you are all having a painfree day.
DEb x0 -
The rheumy sec has just phoned and they have offered me an appt tomorrow at the end of clinic. So, hopefully I will be able to get sorted tomorrow. Wish me well!!!!

I DO wish you very well indeed, Deb. See, throwing your weight around did wonders. Don't stop now, until you feel you are getting somewhere.
Good news, please let us know how you get on.
