this is a law of you know who situation! so i'm having a quick moan!
i go to guys hospital once a year for a check up after having a hip resurfacing op a few years back, but this year could be a problem!!!
the hospital provides transport due to me having mobility problems but i have no one to look after my toddler because my oh can't get the day off as he's interviewing all day.
i am stuck! i don't really want to reschedule because i will have to wait ages for another appointment. i've got someone to have my eldest but because i have no idea what time my oh will be finishing work it's proved impossible to get someone to look after Sarah.
i'm sure i'm not allowed to take her with me as patient transport don't allow me to take my oh with me!
so what to do?
sorry moan over! just annoyed that the date of my appointment as fallen on the same day as my oh has a very busy day interviewing at work!

Hello, Have you tried phoneing the hospital and explaining the problem? They may be able to help. Or asking your GP or the doctors surgery. Someone may know of a child minder who would take a toddler for a just a day. Some places also have holiday clubs for children, run by Social Services, I don't know the age range, but they may be worth phoning to see if they can offer help for just 1 day. I wish I lived near you, I love little ones and would gladly have her!! You may have trouble getting her back from me! Hope you can sort something out, Love Sue0

I am sorry, what a dilemma, I would have thought they would let her go with you. Its worth asking. I hope you manage to get something sorted.

First of all Suz, do you want to take Sarah with you?
If yes, you could get a taxi or a lift from a friend or neighbour.
If no, have you thought about contacting your local church? I don't go to church but I know our local one runs a 'care scheme' where they help disabled or elderly people in the community with whatever problem they may have. I have asked for their help very occasionally in the past and they were very happy to oblige. I just wondered if they could help you in some way with Sarah or have some suggestions - the only downside is that I'm sure you wouldn't want to leave her with a stranger. :?
Hope you get it sorted.

Hi Suz
Should you wish to take sarah with you, does your local Red Cross have a service whereby volunteers use their car to take you to hospital appointments and you pay a nominal fee or the petrol price? Worth phoning around. as you have a mobility problem you are just the sort of person they wish to help. That is the case in our area, anyway.

hi, thanks all, but this is an appointment in london and i live nr basingstoke so my only option to get there is hospital transport, spoke to them and they said i'm not allowed anyone one with me at all, so thats a no, no! i've decided to cancel it and wait for a new appointment, hopefully then oh can get time off, he forgot about my appointment when he was arranging the interviews, duh!!!
the transport people let me take sarah when she was a baby but not at 2 yrs old.
i only go up once a year so specialist can check my hip, he always asks me to take sarah but transport say no!0 -
I'm sorry it seems such a shame to have to cancel the appointment. I suppose you've thought about all your fiends and family. I can't think of anything useful only Social Services and I can understand if you don't want them involved with your daughter, although they do have respite care in some places, just for the day. I have a friend who has a daughter with cerabal palsy and she has care for the odd day to allow her Mum to do things. I suppose thiers no harm in asking. Perhaps, though, you can get another appointment at a time when your partner can help out.

I know it sounds crazy but the reason that Hospital Transport don't allow you to take your child is twofold, first the safety aspect.. a two yr old has to by law be in a child seat which they can sometimes supply if the child is the patient but they are not always available. Secondly the hospital is charged per patient journey and if you take someone with you they will be charged double for your journey by the Ambulance Service who supply the Transport . So hospital policy is to tell the Transport people that no one is allowed to take either an escort or child with them due to monetary constraints... they just can't afford to pay for two journeys . If its a car that collects you rather than an ambulance your child would be taking up a patient space.. its more complicated than it seems...Our worst times are always our best lessons.0

Suz, I'm sorry you've had this hassle. I have similar problems with always running back and forth the hospital. I spoke to my HV about it and she's referred me to HomeStart. If I can't find anyone to take my 2 year old they will look after her for as long as it takes.
Sorry have to run, my mum has just turned up.0
