Hi everyone,
Last Tuesday I went and had my arthroscopy on my left knee. The operation went well and the consultant informed me that with regard to the arthritis, I had the highest score 4 out of 4, not great and I have no cartilage left at all. When I return to the clinic at the beginning of September, the Consultant will discuss my options with me.
I am doing the physio exercises. The knee doesn't bend very well, but my problem seems to be straightening the knee.
I am on crutches, sometimes one, but more often two. I do experience pain and soreness from the kneecap which I assume is normal, but I have an appointment at the wound clinic on Wednesday, so I will mention it there.
All in all I am glad I had it done because I couldn't have continued the way I was so hopefully in a few months time, I should feel better.

Hi Ellie
Ouch!! 4 out of 4? No wonder you were suffering!!
Glad the op went ok and that things are a bit better for now.
Good luck at the physio and wound clinics - when do you see the surgeon again? Did you say? Was it 6 weeks?
Don't do too much

Hope you continue to feel some improvement .I know the exercises etc can be uncomfortable but in the long run....
Take care and keep as mobile as you can.

Hi Ellie
All over then for the time being! Hope it gives you some relief in time. At least the consultant is well aware of what is going on in your knee now that he has had a good look, should you go down the route of a new knee in the future. He is looking after you anyway, which is reassuring as you will see him again in September.
Look after yourself and all the best for your appointment tomorrow.
Luv

Hi Ellie
I hope your pain is easing a bit by now, and that your knee is bending better. I am in the same boat as you after having an arthroscopy last Dec. I was told afterwards that the OA in my knee was classed as severe. It was worse than they had thought from the X-ray and MRI scan. I was told that I would need a TKR, but I decided to wait for a while to see how I progressed.
At first, I thought the arthroscopy had made matters worse as I was in a lot of pain, and couldn't put my weight on that leg. It took longer than I imagined to recover fully from the op. but now I think it did do me some good. I still get some pain in my knee, and can't walk as far as I used to, but at present I don't feel ready for a TKR. I suppose the time will come when I will be asking them to go ahead, but at the moment, I am managing without it.
You will have to see how you are in the weeks ahead, and only you can judge your pain levels and quality of life. You might decide to ask for a new knee if you are not coping too well. Take care, and good luck!

Hi Joan,
The knee is bending and straightening a bit more as time goes on. I still limp when I walk without my crutches. When I went to the wound clinic the other day, the sister informed me that I can still use the crutches for as long as I want as my knee is still quite swollen. The extra problem I have now is a swollen foot on that leg which doesn't seem to go down and I have noticed my calf hurts on that leg when I walk. I am putting an ice pack on the knee in hope that eventually both will go down and continuing with the exercises - like a good girl - but probably not always 3-4 times a day!
The Sister reckoned on about 8 weeks time feeling the benefits, would that be about right??
Best wishes
