Hi all, well I had my rheumy appt today. Not sure really what to make of it. I saw one of the registrars today, she wasn't up to speed on my notes, coukldn't follow my symptoms and we were interrupted 5 times by different nurses barging into the room and interrupting our conversation. It made for an extremely frustrating appt.

Anyway she said I had inflammatory arthritis, she thinks I might have injured my back and so wants me to go for a back x ray and mri neither of which she ordered. She saw I am having a neck mri next week and said they will contact me if they finbd anything on that. Then she said she needed to seeif the consultant wanted to start me on mtx?

She came back and said the steroids were obviously working so to stay on them at 15mg for 3 months and before my next appt I have to decide if I want to try methotrexate or sulfasine. She favoured mtx. She gave me 2 information leaflets on it. So that was that, I don't know what to make of the appt, whether it was worth going or not? Next appt she will introduce me to the rheumy nurse.
I almost felt at one ponit as though I was making it up, despite obvious joint swelling, pain and restricyed movemnt. I hate appts.
Deb x

It's quite a common thread on here that at some time or other we all feel a bit of a fraud.
If only we developed a purple tongue or our hair turned green or something to PROVE that we have this ailment.
Why the hell should we be made to feel this way? Your appt sounds a bit hit and miss so I can understand your feelings about it.Hopefully the appts for the mRi etc will follow on and show up your symptoms better.(if thats the right way of looking at it)
    Don't be despondent

Hi Debatat i no how you feel i do not have auther but my O/H does and when he was fiirst told that he had RA everytime he went to see his consultant he was in terrible pain and he would just say oh your bloods are fine it was only when he was taken into hospital with animia because it was so bad that he started to take note and as for his rummy nurse well that is another story she would not even come up to the ward when he was put on TNF i do think that some of these people do not no how painfull this disease is and i dont no why it seems to be in a lot of cases that they do not listen to patients i do hope you have a better experience next time you see your doctor they always make appointments for three monthe because they say that is how long the meds will take to work.take care alison

Thanks all, I am feeling a bit less confused about my appt now. I think it is the lack of continuity that threw me. Still, at least I am being treated.

    Thanks

    Hi Deb,

It is a step in the right direction eh? I see mine next week and I really don't know what he may say........ If I were you I'd jump at the treatment and I will if any more is offered just to stop the inflamation and maybe get my hands working better?

When I first got injured they actually told me at one point I was all better....... I asked what was causing the pain and e said its in your head........ I though ok, but I can't control my reflexes and I don't have any! I was richer in those days and got a private magnetic scan done......... It lead to a complete spinal decompression as my cord was bent into a dog leg shape in 2 places....... If I hadn't been able to prove my point, well I would have lost the use of at least my my legs! Don't ever let anyone tell you its imaginary!

Good luck with the MRI and you take care, Cris x (who holds a grudge against that idiot doctor still 33 years later! ) Oh and who s at home with a fully working modem and having a much needed fix  x

Cris, lovely to hear from you. I had wondered where you were, I was worried. Glad to hear you are ok and that your modem is fixed! What a horror story  I am not suprised you hold a grudge, I would have made him eat his words!!!!

I hope your rheumy appt goes well next week. Let me know how you get on. It seems you have been waiting ages to get seen.

    Hi Deb,

I was very surprised at that particular doctor...... I suppose he was one?! It was an up country hospital as well......... He almost cost me a higher price than I could have paid eh?

I got this mobile modem and sometimes it can't get a stable signal. Its worked really well till 2 weeks ago when its only worked 5 days out of 16! Kinda annoying cus this site is really addictive......:lol: I go Tuesday so I will hope I get my other diagnosis and hopefully some treatment....... I will get on line either Tues or when it next remembers its a modem.:lol: Luv Cris x
