No one can decide for you. There have been many postings from different people asking for advice on whether to go for a TKR or not. If you are asking you are in doubt - you must be. Wait until you are certain. That time will come, I can assure you. There will come a time, sooner or later when you wake up one morning and think, I cannot go on like this anymore. I am missing out on life. I am in pain, I am taking painkillers every day but they are not getting to the pain. I have been offered the operation, because the consultant thinks I warrant one. I trust him. I want to have the operation.

I have had a TKR and have no regrets. It is now 18 months ago and I am beginning to feel very ready to have the other knee done next year.

There is a huge success with TKRs.

    All the best
    Elna
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

Elna and I are getting to be like a double act on here - Hi Elna, good luck on Friday - but I agree with everything she says.

I too had a very successful TKR two years ago, and it was the best thing I could have done. When you reach a stage where your quality of life is non existent, then you will go for it.

As my " partner in crime " says, the success rate is very high.....Ange.

    Hi Dorothy
Just wondering whethere you have decided yet what to do?
If it was me I'd weigh up how bad my life is being affected and then decide.
    Take care

Had my LTKR on 30 March 2009. You will have post-op ups and downs but after about 3 months the ups will be more than the downs. You have to work at the exercises, take the medication, ice up and elevate and you gradually improve. Ask if you can have a bit of post-op physio - this helped to improve my flexion.

As I said to my OH this week, it really feels as though its my knee now! The one disappointment I have is that I still get the RA inflammation but the surgeon said that you cannot remove all traces of the diseased linings during the op - maybe it will burn out.
