woke up this morning not to bad, but by the time i had got up and dressed was in a lot of pain and very stiff - difficult to move. when it was time to go downstairs, i stood at the top of the stairs just not knowing how i was to get down them. i can barely walk at all today and i'm blubbing like a baby. i'm at work as i don't feel that i can take the time off but i don't know what to do. i have tried ringing the doctors to get an advice call but they have none left as everyone is ringing up about swine flu. the recenptionist seemed quite flustered.
i just don't know what to do and i am just crying at the drop of a hat. (OA ankle)

Do you have a friend in work who you can confide in? I know it doesn't solve the problem for you but at least then you are not alone. Can you go for a long coffee break to get away for a bit and compose yourself? If you can't get through to the GP then maybe NHS direct can advise you. Tell them that you are in work and ask if they can suggest anything that you can do in work so at least you can get home safely.
I wish I could help more. Please try to find someone who you trust to tell what's going on. I'd hate to think of you trying to hide your pain. In the meantime, here's a big virtual hug from me.0 -
Oh Crafty
Poor poor you
Wish we could be there to help you. Maybe it would do you good to have a good cry anyway.
I'm having a boit of knee trouble at the mo and downstairs is a nightmare isn't it?
At the mo I'm bumming down but if ankles hurt it can be hard to get back up at the bottom
AND I'm supposed to be doing the race for life next wekend!! What a pillock eh? It's in memory of my friends hubby who died in sept. So I will do a hobble for life and come in last - who cares?!!!
Thinking of you
Love

((((( Crafty ))))), could you ring the helpline here and chat to someone? Or do you have a friend or family member you could speak to? I crawl up and down stairs when I am bad. I am so sorry you are feeling so rough.
Plan something nice to do over the weekend and take it easy. Hope you feel better soon.
Take care

Oh poor you! I do hope you're feeling better soon. I have OA in my lower back and knees and although I'm nearly over my latest flare up which put me out of action for the best part of 6 weeks, the total agony and frustration can have me in tears for days on end, so I have every sympathy.
No medication has helped me at all so far! I have tried everything from Meloxicam (not even the very mild pain relief that Paracetamol and Ibuprofen combined offer) to Codeine, Tramadol and Morphine patches - god, I have never been so sick in all my life!! I've given up on prescriptions for the time being as I just can't hack anymore attempts to find something that my body will accept!
Anyway keep your chin up - on here you will always find friendship and someone who'll try and cheer you - and most importantly someone who does understand, something family and friends can't always do!

I hope that you are now feeling better. At least rest up and have some painkillers which may help.
As others have said, ring the free helpline on the number at the top of this page. It is a shame that so many doctors are being overrun with the 'worried well', while people such as yourself are pushed back and continue to suffer.

i managed to speak with the doctor friday afternoon. they have now given me a ortho referral but I have to wait until September for an appointment. I was told to rest all weekend and then see how I felt.
i am a lot better but still in pain. went back to the doctors today and they have changed my meds and basically told me that if I need some time off work then they will give it to me. but i don't want to be off work.
I think I will persevere, take the new tablets (cox 2 inhibitor) and see how I go.
thank you for all that you do

yes I think it is them - the name certainly rings a bell - they have put me on the maximum recommended dose for oa.
I think the hardest bit is this is so new and seems to be getting worse so fast and I have only be married 2 and a bit months. We are struggling enough getting used to living together, never mind dealing with this and me needing to rest all the time. He is having a hard time understanding at the moment.0 -
pixyandfaries wrote:i think they do have trouble "seeing" the pain somtimes, i know my hubby is worried sick about money but as he says he is the only one who has seen me in full flare up and wot it dose to me , somtimes he forgets  dont try and be brave and hide it from your hubby ,he has to know or he cant help
must be hard though, how long have you been together ? jan x
in total about 14 months. i yelled at him on friday morning which didn't help. the problem is he is also in pain at the moment and the recommedation he is getting with that is just to keep going through the pain where as i am supposed to rest. it makes it hard. anyway i will just have to keep trying my best to sort it all out.
