Hello everyone,
Cutting a long story short-again! It's about my jaw. Maxillofacial people told me 2mths ago they couldn't do anything else for me and referred me to a TMJ specialist. Appointment never appeared and I phoned the drs secretary last Friday and she booked me in today. I've been told it's osteoarthrosis (I think?) which is similar to OA. I have a bone spur on my jaw bone and they have booked me in for an urgent operation-aargh! I'm relieved that there is someone out there willing to help me but scared too. It sounded very similar to an arthroscopy. They're going to remove bone and inject a steroid into my jaw. Think it'll be sooner rather than later. Also going to another hospital to get a blocked salivary duct removed from my hard palate  I'm going to look a site  Anyone else had these done?
Magenta
Forgot to say, they're also going to get me in touch with a pain clinic which I'm delighted about!

    Hi Magenta,
I don't know about these procedures either, but I just wanted you wish you all the best as well - will be there holding you hand - in thought anyway. I was scared when they mentioned steroid injections but I've suffered worse.

I really do hope this will all help you ..... at last, as you say.
    Best wishes

Hi Eileen , Glad to hear someone is going to help you. but it is fightening is'nt it when they tell you what they are going to do, sometimes i think it would be better just to get on with and not tell you the details . At least it should help you with the pain and that is the most important thing, I wish you well and will be thinking about you all the very best . alicea .....PS I've not got any answers yet.

    Hi
Its great you are getting something done at last. It shouldnt be any more painful than any surgical procedure, and as you have put up with such a lot, i doubt that a few sore days post op will make that much difference to you. Arnica tablets are very good as they reduce swelling and bruising and many surgeons endorse their use. Even if they dont help they are harmless. You need to take them several days before your op and for a few weeks after. Get the high potency ones. When I had major spine surgery I couldnt believe how little bruising i had relative to what i had done and I really do believe the arnica helped. I often give it to my animals and am really impressed with the results.
Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks everyone, you've made me feel alot better.
I was excited at first, thinking that the pain would be gone, then I started thinking about after the surgery. I'm a poor healer so don't want any problems with the wound etc. Arnica is a great idea, think I'll get some.

My hubby thinks it's funny that I'm worried about not talking! How will I cope-ha ha! He's looking forward to peace and quite.
Thanks again all and I'll let you know what happens,
    Magenta xx

Osteoarthrosis and osteoarthritis are terms which are used virtually interchangeably. Osteoarthrosis means a condition where the joints are affected by degeneration. Osteoarthritis implies the same, but the "itis" adds the meaning that the joints are red, hot, swollen, and painful (inflamed).

    Hi Eileen,

    k030.gif

Well, at long last, and not before time too, if I may say so  .

Reading the other threads it looks as though you're going to be the guinea pig for the rest of us .... so please make extensive notes before, during and after surgery in order to keep your cyber buddies informed. In case you are asleep when you're being done I'm quite happy to come along and be your secretary - so long as the rates are favourable

Good luck and I hope it all goes well.

    Luv Legs :D
