Glad to hear things are moving on for you. I think it varies from hospital to hospital but they'll be able to tell you how long you'll have to wait when you go for your assessment. Good luck.

Please don't quote me  but I think it is around 2 - 3 weeks. Does not make sense to have a pre op well before the op does it because health issues can change, which is what they are checking up on as part of the assessment.

HHello, I would think that it would be quite soon, not more than a few weeks, as all the checks they do would be out of date if you wait too long.

Good luck, I hope they give you a date quickly, as waiting can be hard. Take care. Love Sue

    hi
when i had my hip pre op, they said it had to be within 12 weeks or they would need to repeat the tests.
Try not to worry too much, it will be worth it, honest!

    Hi Sooz,

From my first appointment with the surgeon it was 4 months till my knees were replaced. The pre-op assessment was only a week before the operation but I'm going back 9 years and things have probably changed since then.

We're all worried about surgery, major or minor, as it's an invasion into our body that we're not in control of - although I did welcome mine because I was at the end of my tether - I was still frightened though.

We'll be thinking of you - let us know when you get the date.

Hi Sooz they gave me my op date at my pre-op maybe give them a ring and if you catch a helpful nurse they may be able to look on the system for you. A strange thing I know but I was so excited at mine as I have waited and had to fight for so long for the op. It is daunting the fact that someone is going to be re-arranging your leg but trust me you will feel so much better afterwards! Good luck x

I joined this forum because I was terrified of my forthcoming hip op.I had my pre op in Jan,was offered an op in April but turned it down because I just wasnt prepared, then booked a small trip awaywhich clashed with the next date I was given in May. Finally had my op in July after lots of research , and asking questions on this forum made me feel better. It was still a bit scary but at least i had a better idea.

I have now had the op and it went very well and was not as bad as i imagined.

    Hi soozy
I have got my pre-op for my THR next Friday and I hope I will get the date for the op on that day. I am soooo scared of having the op the only way I can get my head around it is, if I just think that after the initial pain from the op has gone "hopefully" I will improve and be painfree and back to "normal" at the end of it all. But I am still TERRIFIED and every time I think about it i feel sick.
    Take care

I had morphine on drip after mine and it was fantastic especially at visiting time when my parents were moanng and the kids were fighting! Pain wise absolutely brilliant and vast improvement. Only scarey moment was doing the stairs with the physios, just keep telling yourself they must know what they are doing and if anything does happen at least you are in a hospital! x

    Hi Soozy
I was really sick with morphine PCA when I had the kids after caesarians but I mentioned this to anaesthetist and he put something in with it (anti sickness) and it was great. I was on morphine tablets and liquid pre op as pain was bad so needed quite high doses post op but the hospital arranged for a pain specialist team to get in touch after my pre op assessment. They were in control of my pain relief regime and it was brill. No pain. I was scared of physio full stop. But after the first session I trusted their experience. The stairs are a bit tricky at first, remembering the rules ("good leg up to heaven, bad leg down to...." anyone alse remeber that one?) But it becomes 2nd nature. It is all worth it to get rid of the awful pre op pain.
    Sorry to ramble

    Thanks nearlybionic
Will remember what you have said about phsyio, just a bit daunting!!
Will ask about anti sickness stuff when I go.
God Just getting nearer and nearer, I am finding I am doing loads of boring stuff just to keep my head, so I don't have to worry about the op!!! Hope its sooner rather than later,
