Burning pain in joint??

Hi everyone, hope you have all enjoyed a nice sunny day today (I think they're being rationed at one a fortnight at the moment!!) I have a question if you don't mind: having had persistent problems with my big toe joint for 3 years (this is the one that they are going backwards and forwards between fusing or not!) I have noticed a different type of pain the last couple of weeks-more like a burning sensation. I think I've heard of this - does it mean anything significant or is it just another of the little tricks we get sent??
Thanks, Josie

Ohhh. I can relate to that! I have massive toe joints that make my shoes difficult to wear. Sometimes its a pain, but ofter its a hot, burning pain that makes it hard to walk! It swells and goes bright red, my left is worse than my right, had it for years steadily getting bigger and hurting more! Sorry about your pain, hope it settles. Love Sue0

I thought I'd heard of others having it: am not obviously swollen or hot, although bone spurs have enlarged the joint and rub on shoes. Because there is still some movement when physically manipulated  the consultant is reluctant to fuse it yet. Nothing moves when I wriggle it though, so as far as I'm concerned he can do it! I can sympathise with anyone with sore toes! Thanks for replying Sue when you have so much going on yourself, kind regards XX0

Hi Josie,
It's just arther visiting, a sort of sweet intense burning pain! Mine went on for 20 years. Won't get any better though, so next stop is fusing or replacement, I've had both. The foot does take a long time to settle down in its new role, its not an instant cure, even now after 12 years I feel problems. The type of shoe you wear has a big influence, nice big supportive trainers with lots of cushioning work well for me. But then a friend had both done and she shops for England!
8) Its a grin, honest!0 -
I do wish it would go away! He thinks fusion is a better option for me at my age, have had a few steroid injections with varying amounts of success but last one was so painful I think it was the last!! At the moment I have lovely NHS trainers and orthotics which do help, but I just want to be pain free!! He says I don't understand the restrictions on footwear after its fused (3/4 inch heel he says) but I do and I don't care! Oh well! (it's an attempt at a smile, honest!) Thanks!0
