he left a perscription at the surgery for me to pick up. i took it to the chemist but it will not be ready till next thursday but they have my phone no. when i was at the hospital on monday he said he would make an app for the pain c but i dont know how long i would have to wait so it was kind of the doc to give me the naproxen.

:?: Seems strange you have to wait soooo long for your prescription especially if you have that amount of pain, surely there is somewhere that can get it for you quicker ??? I do hope you feel better soon.

You can buy a pill crusher from the chemist Joan, that would enable you to put the crushed tablet into a teaspoon of any liquid that you can swallow.

Also, I wondered if you had an NHS Walk-In Centre near you. They would help you with pain relief until you get your appointment for the pain clinic.

The pill crusher I mean Joan reduces the tablets to a very very fine powder which you could then put into liquid on a spoon to help you swallow. Perhaps yours is slightly different......Ange.

    Hi Angel l.
I was told you cannot cut all tablets.
i think mine is the same as yours as mine as a blade that you can close the lid and cut the tab as much as you want.
the lady at the chemist told me you cannot cut all tabs i have put the powder from capsules in yogurt. joan xx

    Hi Joan

It is a long wait but hopefully worth it. Just wondered if you still need something to protect your stomach with it being liquid. If you do it might be an idea to get another prescription from Dr. then you are ready and safe. If you have problems with all tablets Lansoprozole do one that disolves called FasTab.

    Hi Joan

I'd check it out if I was you, that is one thing my Dr. always insists on.

    Hi Joan,

You might not be able to crush the tablets

    a) because some are slow release and

    b) because they're enteric coated which is often put on to asprin based drugs in order to protect our stomachs - that's why some have to be swallowed whole.

I, too, think it's a very long time to wait whilst you're suffering. :(

    Hi Lindlegs.
yes you are right i was told that.
i have tried to swollow tabs with a glass of water how ever fast i've swollowed it has stuck in my throat and wont go down
it could be in my mind that my sister had a blood pressure tab stuck in her troat and she had to go to the doc who sent her up the hospital and they gave her a injection to relax.

    Hi Joan,

I used to have a huge problem with getting tablets stuck. I used to take them with a cup of tea in the morning and they would just seem to lodge in my throat and I was coughing, heaving, eyes and nose streaming until they either came up again or went down E V E N T U A L L Y:( Each time I was convinced that this was the time I was going to die

During a spell in hospital I met a retiring Sister and she gave me great advice. When you take your tablets have a full glass of water with you, have a drink first so your throat is lubricated, then put your tablet in your mouth and then fill your mouth with water as much as you can manage(comfortably) then swallow the bubble of water and the tablet goes floating down with it and continue to drink. I have not had one tablet get stuck since although, occasionally it does touch my throat on the way down just to let me know it's there and tell me not to get complacent.

It could be worth a try - if you've not tried this - as my fear of taking even the huge torpedos I have to swallow now has completely gone.
