Sore knee

Hi all,
Wondered if anyone can give me some advice about my left knee?
I was on holiday at Centre Parcs in the last week of July. On my second day there (now 11 days ago), I was kicked on the side of my left knee by a pony!!! Glad it wasn't one of the horses cos this was painful! It was sore and very bruised but no swelling.
After about a week, my knee now has become very, very painful.
It's stiff and sore in the morning but as the day progresses, I can't weight bear on my leg. It's difficult to get up and downstairs and even sitting/lying, it hurts. The pain when walking is a sharp pain and travels from the area where I was kicked, right across my knee.
I've been told that in order to get an x-ray, I need a referral from my GP. The first appointment I could get is for the 18th-first day back at work-typical! Any ideas about what it could be or I should do? Also feel like a complete numpty!
Thanks,
Magenta x

Go to a and e tomorrow, then you'll get sorted (if you are prepared to wait).
Hope you get sorted

Hi Janie,
I was told by my ever efficient receptionist at GP surgery that if I go to A+E with an 'old' injury, they'll tell me to go back to my GP and they won't look at it! Can I just turn up? Receptionist also said that 'because I've obviously been able to cope with the pain for so long, there can't really be that much wrong with my knee'
I just feel really stupid :?

Hi Magenta
I am so sorry to hear what happened when you were on your hols.
I am cross about your receptionist. I wonder who they think they are at times. She may well be right about you going to A&E because you did not go immediately when it happened BUT it is not right that you have to wait a further 10 days to see your gp. For her to say what she said regarding there can't be much wrong with your knee as you have been able to cope with the pain, is to me, a very flippant remark, and totally out of order. She is not you and has absolutely no idea what degree of pain you are in etc.
I would call in again and this time say in no uncertain terms that the pain is excruciating, you can put no weight on the knee and you need an emergency appointment. You are unable to wait nearly 2 weeks. They must have emergency appointments, every gp surgery has them.
You may not have put it across strongly enough to her, how painful it is.
Have you tried RICE - Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation ?
Please do not feel stupid, you most definately are not that.
Luv

Hi Elna,
It's funny, it's not swollen so I've not bothered with ice or compression, just elevation but that doesn't take the pain away. I'll try next week for an emergency-fingers crossed. How's things with you? How's your Mum? I've not been logging on as much lately and don't really know much about anyone these days.
Thanks for your message,

Hi Magenta
I hope you do try for an emergency appointment but with your over enthusiastic receptionist, I think you will have to lay it on, big time and be a little forceful, which probably isn't in your nature at all, but needs must, as the knee is very painful and you cannot put weight on it.
Thank you for asking about my mum. Yes, she is managing fine, in her bungalow with help, paid and unpaid, from her friends. She is able to walk into town, albeit it very slowly, with her walker. She finally came home from her long stay in hospital in January and was ok for a few weeks but then started to behave very oddly and I eventually got her gp to listen to me and she was assessd by a psychiatrist and attended a mental unit, day centre, twice a week for some time and was monitored. Since being on anti psychotic drugs, she is back to her old self. She really enjoyed attending the unit as she met many types of people and also learnt to do things she had never tried before, ie darts and painting and the odd easy quiz. It has been a very worrying time off and on since last September but all has been calm for a few months now and long may that last.
I hope you were able to have an enjoyable holiday and hope you get some joy from the medics very soon.
Love

Hello Bertyboy, Sharmaine and Elna,
Thanks for your messages!
Elna, I'm glad your mum is doing really well She was really very ill wasn't she but I bet you can't believe how well she is now? Glad she's getting out and about. I did get a good nights sleep but after taking my co-dydramol. My knee hasn't got any better and I'm now getting pain above and below knee. Don't know if I've damaged muscles or ligaments. Will try drs again.
Bertyboy and Sharmaine-thanks I will let you all know what happens,

Hello, just a thought but do you have a walk in centre.I am lucky in that there is one at the end of my street.
When my grandson was hurt they arranged for him to go for x rays etc but now they have their own x ray dept.
