I can't do without my lappy but I'm finding that my arms are aching more when I'm on it than when not. Especially in my wrists and fingers. Strange really as my arthus is in my neck.
Come to think of it i've had pains in my fingers much longer than in my neck.
Seems strange (and worrying) that 2-3 months ago I didn't have aches and pains and now they seem to be out in force.

    Hi Carol

I have the same problem and have to keep having a break, think it's quite common. If things get too bad there is something you can use that's voice activated think it's dragon something. I will see if I can find out and post it up.

It is Dragon voice recognition software.

Hi if you look around on the inernet, their are all sorts of aides for using a computer. Personelly I find that a our lap top is worse for me to use, but then I've always been used to a 'proper' keyboard for a long, long time! I learnt to type on an old manual keyboard and I tried to use an old one I found, but I couldn't press the keys hard enough to hit the paper. I think the damn thing was broken! Me that is! Love Sue

    Hi Carol,

I use a laptop at home and don't particularly like using the keyboard so my son gave me a wireless keyboard and mouse. I use it when I'm typing anything lengthy.

It could also be your posture - maybe try sitting a different way or at a different height, or it you're at a table, bring the laptop closer so you don't have to stretch.

Hope things get better because it's a real nuisance when you feel uncomfortable when using something.

Check your posture and keyboard are OK. You should be sitting with your feet flat on the floor and your forearms should be horizontal. Your keyboard should be tipped up at the back. Avoid those nasty "wrist rests" - they cause RSI. Your forearms and fingers should be unimpeded. Try to avoid the use of a mouse whenever possible. Most programs will work without one.

    Hi Carol

I'm sorry that you're having so much discomfort in your arms and fingers.

I was first diagnosed with OA in my knees that was nearly 3 years ago, however, my fingers/hands are now affected - they get very stiff especially during a flare up or if I get too cold. Mention it to your GP. Mine told me that they couldn't possibly x ray every joint to determine OA. They're only concentrating on my knees now because they're so bad. Lately the index finger on my right hand hurts like crazy. Make sure you keep on top of your meds.

I don't know about you but I can't open jars anymore - even trying to lift the boot of my car is hard work. I bought some jar openers and an automatic tin opener which has helped in the kitchen. My grip is not what it used to be.

Go and see your GP maybe they might be able to suggest something.

    Regards
