Has anyone ever applied for one of these? I'm finding it hard work getting up the steps to our house and if I can get a grant I'm going to try and change it so its safe. I've already had a couple of falls!!

Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.

    Hi,
I think one way is to get into touch with social services and they come out and do an assessment , if they agree with your idea they will explain how to apply for the grant , you may find they have other helpful ideas too to help you , may be aids that you have not thought of , in my case they built a shower room as I could not get in and out of the bath ,
Different areas have different rules about these grants , but if you don't ask you won't get.
    Good luck

    Hi Sharmaine

If you google social services there is advise about grants on the 1st one that comes up, might be helpful.

Hi Sharmaine, I applied for a Disabled Facilities Grant with the help of my OT, I couldn't get into my bath and she suggested that I should have a low level shower, it took a while to get the grant but I got a 100% grant and didn't pay anything at all, if you ring up Social Services and ask to be put through to a community OT, hope this helps love Jaspercatxx

I have sent an email to the Occupational Therapist. My GP is away until the end of this month so can't refer me. If I don't hear anything I'll give the OT a call.

Thanks for this. I would like to get the step sorted out before I get any worse (and I seem to with each passing week). I can't even say when they'll operate on my bad knee until I see the specialist next week.

    I appreciate your comments.
