Tingles Update

Just to recap a while ago I posted about having tingles and buzzing in my little and ring fingers of my left hand. Saw Rheumy and he injected my elbow because I have a trapped ulna nerve.
Well, after 14 days I gave him a ring, as instructed, because the injection hadn't worked - the wheels are now in motion for me to see a surgeon to move the nerve.
I have since decided not to have the op because my right elbow doesn't move and if something goes wrong with my remaining moving elbow during surgery and causes that to seize up then I'm in a huge mess. I decided I could live with the tingles and I came to this decision after long and careful thought about a month ago.
Now without me realising, at first, the tingling has very, very gradually been subsiding till now it's hardly noticeable and I'm hoping that it may disappear altogether so when the hospital appointment comes through I shall be cancelling it.
So for any of you out there who has the discomfort of a trapped nerve - take it from me that it can right itself and settle down without any invasive surgery.

Hi, The injections I had in my wrists were just like that, but the rheummy warned me it may take a while. When I went back they said as the injection worked, surgery would be better! So I had the op and just as it was really getting better and I was noticing the difference I fell on it Still its better than it was when I first did it, I'm going to see the surgeon next week and I feel a bit embarressed!

Hi Legs,
Been wondering about your tingling nerves. I'm still waiting on nerve tests to confirm the same thing as you. Mines won't go away!!! It's really annoying me. Comes and goes but thankfully, my elbows work so I think if I was you, I'd probably be doing the same. I have heard there is a possibility that your elbow might not 'work' after the surgery so I think, if you can bare it, then cancel.

Hi Legs,
Keep the appointment and keep your options open........ Its not something you have to go through with but maybe he will have some ideas you haven't had before?
I can see where your coming from re not having it operated on but you don't have to go through with it just see what he is offering.
Luv
Cris who has no fear of going under the knife! x

Glad the tingling seems to have eased up on it's own. As Cris said though still go for the appointment just to see what they have to say. You don't have to go through anything you don't want to.

Hi Linda,
Good to hear your 'tingling' is subsiding.
(And I am trying incredibly hard not to make some risque comment about you having a tingly feeling

Hi,. Don't forget that you may be feeling better because of the injection. I don't mean to be negative, but thats how my wrists were for about 6 weeks or so and then the symptoms came back.
I had the op for carpel, which isn't the same, Iknow but I didn't feel a thing, my hand was just dead. As someone said, don't cancel yet, you may change your mind.
Hope all goes well for you, Love Sue
PS I am also a whimp!!! :oops:0 -
Thank you so much one and all for your advice. I have read each one thoroughly and am now reconsidering my options after what you've all said.
First of all Sue, I'm so sorry to hear that you fell on your wrist you must have been so upset let's hope you've not done any serious damage. I would like to say that when I was injected my Rheumy said I would feel benefit within 14 days and if not the injection hadn't worked - do you think I've had a delayed reaction?

I really am so afraid of losing the movement in my elbow. If that goes I won't be able to feed myself, blow my own nose, take my painkillers  comb my hair, pick my nose, etc, etc, I am dependent for certain things on other people as it and I'd just lose more dignity and freedom. The thought of having to be fed and have my nose wiped, etc by someone else sends a shiver down my spine.
The appointment hasn't come through yet but when it does I shall go and discuss things with the surgeon as one of the things I need to know is that if the nerve is still trapped will this cause further damage to my semi-useless hands and is it likely to become painful. I can put up with the tingles but I don't want anymore pain thank you very much

...and finally back to you again Sue, did they put your wrists in plaster after the op and if yes, how long for? The reason for asking this is that when I had a tendon transfer in my hand they immobilised it and when they took the plaster off my top thumb joint had fused and has never moved since.
My hubby reckons that's why my jaw has never seized up 'cos it's constantly in use
Well thanks for listening to my woes  .

Hi Linda,
When my hand was stitched they put a dressing on the site and then a thick pressure dressing, like a type of cotten wool, in the palm of my hand, and bandiged over that. It looked like those boxers have before they put the gloves on! I also had a high sling on to elevate the arm, but I could take it off when just sitting for an hour or so and it was only for 2 days, thats just for risk of bleeding, I think. They told me to keep the pressure dressing on for the 10 days until the stiches came out, but of course it didn't stay on, so my o/h re-bandaged it for me and I had to sleep with my hand on 2 pillows. When the stitches came out, my had was stiff and it took a while to use it again and I had to keep it covered for a week. As soon as the dressings came off I had more feeling in my findgers, but no strength, but that soon came back. My palm felt a bit bruised, but that also went off. The hand stayed a bit swollen for a few weeks.
When I went on holiday to the lake district I got out of the car, with my pole and trainers on but the grass was on slate and a bit damp and I just slipped backwards and my hand took a bashing. I had it x-rayed and its not fractured, but very bruised, they gave me a wrist brace, and I had to wear that all the time for a couple of weeks. I'm still sore and a bit numb again. I'm seeing the plastics doc next week, so he will be able to see it its damaged.
I've got my fingers crossed! Sorry, its such a long story. I do understand your situation, its a big decision. I'd feel like you.
Love Sue

Thanks for that Sue and please don't apologise - I like a long story because I get a full explanation and can understand things better. I shall cross my fingers too for you

Hi Lindalegs.
I think you should keep the appointment. Like some others have said the injection may have taken some of the sensations away. I still have my tingling, but since have a steriod injection 2 weeks ago, that subsided a little, but has been coming back again. There is a lot of weakness in that hand and very sore I have been doing a lot of typing too what with one thing and another, lots of forms ,letters with events I'm involved with. I am not doing myself much good really.
I have now been referred for the electro tests so goodness knows how long I will have to wait for that. Then the op. I shal have to have my right ulner done too, but will give that a lot of consideration because it is my painting hand.

Hi Linda,
You have given me such excellent advice in the past but I'm afraid I can't help or advise you over your latest concern. You have had good advice from other peeps who understand the situation though, but I just wanted to say I understand your worry about depending on other people - but that may not be the case.......
Thinking of you and sending you a big cyber-hug (((( ))))
luv Jackie x0
