Taking time off when I need to renew my sick note :P

Rang the surgery up to book an appointment for tomorrow morning but they have nothing. I was told to ring back next monday. To which I explained my sick note runs out tomorrow. I was then told as I knew my sick note was due to run out I should have made an appointment sooner. To which I replied as they don't back date sick notes or write them in advance then what would be the point.
I think she took pity on me when I burst into tears and said I had occopational health tomorrow had no idea what having OA in my neck means and really can't manage work at the moment.

I've to ring up in the morning and they will see if they can fit me in. Which makes me wonder why they couldn't say today that they would fit me in. If there's no appointments today for tomorrow how are they going to suddenly get some tomorrow

Glad to get that off my chest

Know where you are coming from doctors receptionists are a special breed! Do you think they ask for these special qualities when they advertise the jobs?! :x

    Carol,

I too have had sick notes backdated and they are pink in colour. I can also get one fron a triage nurse if dr not available, so really the receptionist is not right at all.

    Ring back and tell them!!

    Hi Carol,

I also find it very frustrating when trying to get an appointment or even just advice at my health centre. However it's not always the doctors who are the problem - it's the bloomin' reception staff!!

More often than not you are made to feel you are being nothing but a nuisance by phoning and asking for something. They once made a mistake with a repeat prescription I'd asked for and when I questioned it was asked"and what do you want me to do about it"??!!! It wasn't the mistake because we all make them, it was the attitude that infuriated me.

Anyway, I hope you manage to get an appointment soon.

    Best wishes Pheebs x

    Hi Carol

Hope you get an appt ok tomorrow. You will only be a matter of minutes, won't you, all they have to do is sign and pass the note to you. My hubby had a polite rant one time to one of the receptionists because she said there were no appts with his doc for 2 weeks. All he wanted was a referral letter to a private physiotherapist which would take seconds to be written by any gp. Then she said, well he does hold a surgery tomorrow in the evening. He got his appt. Who do they think they are? Who was trying to protect whom, I wonder? We know our doc is not happy to have to do either an early or late surgery, once a week........

    Luv

    Hello,
Good luck for tomorrow. GP appointments can be very frustrating things to get. My GP dosn't give out all the appointments in advance, so its often hard to get the right week, they tell you to ring at 8 am on the day, but its so hard to get through as everyone is ringing, then theirs no garenttee you'll be seen. They do always have an emergancy doc though, so you can see someone.

I hope all goes well for you. Try not to worry too much.

Have been very lucky with my practice and the receptionists there are great as well but again if I have explained the situation to my GP regarding sicknotes he has been happy to give me extended date ones - it seems to be DWP who mess up the dates when you try and send them in so that you do not have any interruption (if any of this makes sense!!!!!!!!) :?

    Yes, they can backdate sicknotes...
I dont know if your practice do telephone consultations but mine do and as they know i have a long term health problem they just have a chat with me on the phone instead and then someone picks it up for me...
I suppose im a bit naughty but 2 weeks before my sick note runs out i book an appointment just in case....you can always cancel it if your feeling better....
And please dont feel bad...i have shed many tears in my GP's

    Thanks everyone :D
I shall be ringing them up first thing in the morning. Hopefully they will fit me in as I need to see the doc now as well as get the sick note.
I've had a bad afternoon with my boy. He has Aspergers and often lashes out at me if he can't control the way he's feeling. Well today he lashed out and now i'm feeling the brunt of it in my arms where I had to hold him down so he didn't hurt his 3 yr old cousin and 5 yr old sister.
Doubt there's much the doc can do, but I do need him to give me a brief description of what's wrong with me so I can tell the occupational health tomorrow.

I rang up last week to get an appointment for repeat sick note. Was told my GP was full up all this week and is away for the next couple of weeks. So I said I didn't then care who I saw. They had NO appointments this week at all. So now I'm to go in on Monday. My sick note ran out on 10th Aug but there is nothing I can do, even tried for them to do it over the phone but apparently thats not allowed. Tried to tell them that my condition hadn't got miraculouly better since the last sick note (or over past 11yrs!) and had in fact got worse but this didn't work either.

Oh well, lets see what monday brings....I just have to explain the saga again!
