ESA claim Urhhhhhhhh!!!!!!

Hi,
I left work in June, not my choice - I was retired with ill health. I filled in, over the phone, a claim for esa. Soon afterwards, I hade a letter saying that my claim was refused on the grounds that I hadn't paid enough contributions, as I have been paying them since I started work with only a few years break 10 years ago, when I looked after my Mother in Law, I spoke to them again. Apparently the person i had spoken to or myself had made a mistake and sent the wrong years P60. I copied it and sent it in. This was the end of June.
I have heard nothing, so today I rang the office again. The guy that answered said that they had lost the P60 and so nothing had been done. I now have to send another copy of the form to them. I can do it but I feel that such poor administration is not good enough. He said, 'Its just a piece of paper and easy to get thrown away when it comes into the office. If, when I was working, I had treated any official note in such a way, I would have faced official disciplinery action and may even have lost my job. We did have notes with important confidential notes attached and had to make sure they were safe.
I'm afraid I just didn't have the energy to argue the case with him, but I do feel very cross and fed up. A P60 is a confidental document, not a note of the back of a cigerette packet! Sorry, I'm ranting on a bit, but it does help to get it of my chest!
Thanks for listening.

Of course you are right and you should make an official complaint.
I agree, if I'd been as carefree with confidential documents in my previous job I'd have been given the sack!
It's appalling.

Hi Sue,
I understand completely why your feeling angry, like you say a P60 is kinda important! I am amazed they have chucked it out....... I hope you can get it all sorted soon though. Luv Cris x0 -
you have every right to be annoyed and angry they should take more care of confidential info I would have got the sack instantly if I had thrown away an inportant document.
Hope you get it sorted soon

Hello
While I totally agree with you about the inefficiency of these departments(and having experienced the same myself i.e. a few weeks ago I was due a payment from them and they decided to try and pay it into my maiden name instead of my married name which has been the same for the last 5 YEARS) but I would recommend that any documentation you send to them you mark with your name and NINO and photocopy and get proof of posting for. They really are a case of the right hand doesn't know what the left hand are doing. Good luck and lets hope you have no more mishaps x0 -
Hi, I tried sending a copy, but they sent it back saying it had to be the original doc. I have a copy and I will send a copy of that. The attitude of 'its not a very big bit of paper so its obviously been distroyed by mistake, and treating as if its a bit of a joke makes you wonder how seriously they take their job. I'll stop ranting now!

Hi,
What the hell are they playing at??? They are at fault not you and I'm sorry but find it hard to believe they can't access your NI details from the database at Dwp or whatever it is!!
They are there to serve US, we pay their wages, please take this further, oooh I am so angry with them, :x :x
Sorry for going on but hope you know what I mean!!!

Hello Sue - no wonder we don't want to send these people original copies if they then "lose" them with such disregard. I am currently in process of claiming as my SSP ran out end of July. Sent medical note & SSP1 recorded delivery yest and dreading them saying no good or they've lost it.
Try phoning ( so hard to get through though) & ask to speak to a manager to complain.
All this is so infuriating when we've been working all these years paying contributions. I think perhaps they hope that we will be so worn out with trying we will just give up which is NOT fair.

Not so long ago, I signed on between looking after my Mum in Law and starting a job, (I got no money, but just contributions paid), and I did that just along the road in the local office with the staff helping me and making it easy to do. Now, the office is shut, the system has changed and the main office, which is the only one left, is 16 miles away, and they instruct you to do this on the phone or over the internet and post the documents in. Its a BIG improvement, I don't think! Thats life. :x
