Hi all,

Over night the top of my foot decided to swell to point i crnt put any weight on it. I went to see my gp this morning and he said its all because of the RA. Just wondering if anyone else has had this before? n how long it took togo down?

thank you

    Hi Madness,

Have you tried putting a bag of frozen peas onto your foot? If no, put a damp cloth on your skin and the peas on top and leave on for about 20 minutes then gently move your foot around without weight bearing and this should help reduce the swelling. Refreeze and mark the peas so you don't eat them by mistake so you can use them again.

Arthritis can make joints swell up out of the blue for no apparent reason sometimes.

    Hi Madness,

Sorry your having foot problems. legs has given you the best advice though cus I am allergic to the cold i have always just used heat and think cold may well be better.

I had a lot of foot problems and the re-designed them for me 8 years ago and they have been much better. Mine are playing up at the mo, it does stop but sadly mine don't have a time scale and I really hope you can get some relief soon. Cris x

I have a similar problem with my right foot this afternoon, but I also have what appears to be a hard (bony?) lump on the top of my right foot that wasn't there before and there isn't a matching one on the left.

painful foot too, so will try to get a GP appointment for the morning ... can't be out in the afternoon as I am awaiting a delivery of MTX !

there is always something with arthur isn't there?! :x

Think I've been jinxed!  I always have foot pain to some degree but today is too sore to touch around my big toe joint (but not hot or swollen) and have had to pad it to get sandals on. Is very sore to walk on today and I don't know why!! Hope all your tootsies are behaving themselves today!

didn't manage to get appointment on Friday, but may have better luck tomorrow morning, as they never pre-book for a monday clinic thank goodness!

going to try to get to the bottom of the foot thing ... and ask to sdd a podiatrist. have never seen anyone about my feet - even in 10 years of RA!!!

Is this usual or just in this area? most of the info suggests that foot care is an early priority these days.

The foot and ankle contain 26 bones, (one-quarter of the bones in the human body are in the feet), and have 33 joints. As the feet have to take your full weight there is a lot of pressure/flexibility involved and just one joint complaining can be very tender and seem to stop all mobility.

Are we therefore surprised that with RA the feet often rebel? I usually rest with elevated feet on a footstool and take painkillers; things usually get back to normal in about 24 hours. If longer then see your doc.

    Been to see GP

SHe thinks I have damaged tendons or ligaments rather than being the Arthritis causing the pain.

@Bony' lump may be just that, or may be a ganglion (not sure of the spelling!)

have had a foot x-ray to check things out.

not anything else I can do that I am not doing already (anti-inflams, paracetamol or co-codamol) until it sorts itself out.

    just thought I'd letyou know.

Glad you've had it looked at Wonky, at least you know what you're dealing with and that you're doing the best for yourself.

    Hi Wonky

Hope it sorts itself out soon, if it doesn't what are your other options, were you given any?
