Right i had my arthroscopy yesterday as i have O/A in both knees.

The damage inside was much worse than he had thought,a large patch of bone exposed completly. It warrented a partial knee replacement but he decided to try the micro fracture first.

He did say a 70% chance if it working but just wondered if anyone here as had this done and it been successful?

    Hi Di

Just had a quick google of "microfracture knee" as I had never heard of it before and I am very nosy!!:lol: It was interesting to read.

He presumable wants to encourage more cartilege and from what I understand this is what microfracture does.

Microfracture is good for patients with limited areas of cartilage damage, patients who are active and cannot participate in their sport or activity because of symptoms and patients with pain or swelling caused by the damaged area of cartilage

This op is no good for anyone inactive and with widespread arthritis of the joint

It is keyhole surgery like the arthroscopy and the key to success is rehabilitation afterwards, the area must be protected as well as maintaining the strength and motion of the knee joint.

Should you go ahead, I wish you well with this.

I have already had it done
Said he may as well do it as he is in the knee already.

Funny he said knee was worse than he thought but that says limited damage, hmmmm.

Well i have to wear this splint for 8 weeks :( No bending the knee.
So much bloody pain :( good news other knee as benefitted from a clean out and trim.

    Hi Di,

I read your message so quickly I did not realise that he did it the same time as the arthro but that makes sense. I suppose you are on crutches then. So sorry about the pain, that is what I had after my TKR, whilst others have none, but it was ok in the end. :D:D When do you start physio on it . Good news that the other knee benefited from the "spring clean".

I am sure all will be well, but sometimes being patient, especially when in pain is difficult. I know that all too well.

Let us know how you get on, doesn't look like anyone on the site at the mo, has had this done.

Chin up, I am sure it will be worth it.

    Luv
