My Rheumatologist has suggested that I try this to help with massive inflamation as I cannot take anti iflamatory drugs due to recent stomach ulcer caused by anti inflam meds.
Has anyone used it and how effective was it and how long did you benefit as I can only have one injection every 4 months. Can any of you help

Jane

    Hey Jane,

Sorry to hear your arthritis is playing silly beggars. I can't tolerate any anti-inflammatories either (and I've tried quite a few). I have had depo-medrone (sp) injections periodically since I was first diagnosed with RA 11yrs ago. Usually I have about 120mg inj but I have had 80mg inj. It just depends on the size of the flare. Side effects with me are usually putting on additional weight, but usually you can control it if you keep an eye on things.
The inj usually works and I do feel a lot better after a couple of days. Very occasionally it doesn't work that well but if thats the case its usually my fibro flaring rather than RA. I don't know if you've had this but you can have steroid inj into the effected joints but if you want an overall effect having it in your bum or tops of your thighs is the norm.

    Hope this helps.

I've had this before and it was brilliant. Weight gain can be a bit of a problem but after a couple of days I was like a different person. It started to wear off at about 6-8 weeks, but I was able to do things in those 6-8 weeks that I could not have considered before.

    I'd echo what tinkerbell wrote.

A big depo fan here! Just a pity you can't have one every week...

Thank you all for your response. I think I will give it a go - bit worried that it seems unlikely to lasr 4 minths. Will have to see. An seeing Dr on Thursday to discuss this or to try for anti-tnf.

    Hi Jane

Depot medrone for me is a short term thing to help control flares, they do work but only last 3 weeks for me so I cant see how it is being suggested as a long term option.

Unless you will have them regularly??

Good luck for your appt, I am going onto anti-tnf myself so can understand your predicament.

Hi, I had Depo Meth injected into my wrists, when I first had carpel tunnel. It worked well for 6 weeks on my left hand and several months on my right. I know other people have it in other ways, but I've no experience of this, sorry. Hope all goes well. Love Sue

    hello...

i had depo as a general injection (into bottom!) and also as joint injections.....

the general was quite quick in that it took two days to kick in, but i think my body got too used to it, so in the end, it would only last for about 2/3 weeks...

joint injections, although much more painful, and that you have to rest the joint for 2/3 days to get the maximum benefit, would last me about 2 months......

i guess they are different for everyone though.....

    take care...hugs....
