Wet Room Saga UPDATED

Just thought I would let you know that I did eventually get my wetroom installed, some of you may remember me having problems as I did not want the council doing it for me and having it their way, I eventually after a load of screaming got what I wanted, the bathroom tiled to my liking and a lovely wet room. As this was a disabled facilitys grant, I asked if I could get any help with a remote control gate so I could park in the back of my property as living in Blackpool parking is premium and I am forever getting fines, eventhough there is nowhere for me to park. Anyway OT said no way, money too tight, so I contacted my local MP who wrote into the council asking why I was refused, the council informed my MP the OT had not even asked about a remote control gate, but they would be willing to look into it as Disabled facility grants are also provided for outside use of propertys, I shown my OT the letter and she put in a letter asking for help for me, I have just had a lovely remote control (shop shutter) roller blind put at the end of my yard making parking no longer a problem. So my reason for telling you all this, is do not be fobbed offf, if you have a pc, you can contact your MP through the site called www.writetothem.com Good luck all.xxxxx

    Hi Luckybug

Good news - you're now squeaky clean and you're stress free because you can park your car - now I'm just wondering what I need to sort out 'cos I now know who to turn to when things need doing :lol:

    You take care.

I'm so glad to hear you have a lovely wet room and somewhere to park.

I 'phoned up the OT and asked her if I would qualify for a disability grant to sort out the steps at the front of my house. Waiting to hear back from them.

You have to try for these things.

    Hi Luckybug

I hope you don't mind me asking this, I haven't read your previous posts about this.

Is anyone entitled to apply for this funding? I am really struggling and have been thinking about having my bathroom adapted. I am employed but live in a HA property and don't want to invest too much money if I end up moving. If there is funding available it would be a great help but as I'm employed I don't know if I'd qualify.

    Thanks.

I'm so pleased that you have got your wet room shower (and jealous  )and your parking sorted out - its all the little things that people take for granted that make such a difference to us.
I live in a housing association house in Edinburgh and have found that they have been very helpful in discussing what adaptations I need for the house. I spoke to them first to see how to go about getting the adaptations I needed and what their policy was regarding the adaptations.
It turned out that they have a fund for disability adaptations (taken from the annual rents so funded by all the tenants) and in consultation with the occ health will put the wheels in motion before they even have confirmation of funding. They will fund small adaptations like grab rails, guards round doors, extra banister etc and the housing officers actually knew more than the occ health re funding and planning!
Because there is just no suitable housing for me to move/transfer to I am getting a vertical lift (stairs not suitable for stair lift) and 2 single bedrooms and large walk in cupboard knocked together to make a larger bedroom with on-suite wet room shower. My daughter is pleased she is getting my double room at the front of the house and is already planning the decor!
The housing association is also paying for us to be relocated for the 2 weeks it is going to take for the work to be done.
They will get the cost refunded at some point in the future but their policy is to get the adaptations done as quickly as possible to make sure that they are responding to the tenants needs and put funds aside in the budget every year for special adaptations/renovations.
I will just be happy to be able to have a shower instead of washing in the kitchen or downstairs toilet (thank goodness I was in a house with 2 toilets when 'arthur' decided to make himself known to me!
I get my daughter to take photos on her phone of the rooms upstairs so that I can see how messy they are without me running about tidying up and hoovering  - cant wait to get back into my own bed (still sleeping downstairs as stairs are a big problem just now) and on the plus side I will be at the back of the house so wont get all the noise from the street keeping me awake.
    Enjoy your wet room :)
    cyber (((hugs))) to everyone
