    Hi Nellie

I am sorry to read your story. Muscles do become weak if not used and you have probably been compensating in the way you walk, which is the most comfortable way for you to get about and not using the correct muscles, if you know what I mean. It is especially important to try to keep the femur strong, the thigh bone.

Let's hope that physio will help you. It will probably take some time, but if you persevere it is possible to strengthen the muscles. It is such a shame that someone did not give you correct advice some time ago and perhaps it would not have got anywhere near as bad as this. We put our faith in the medics, don't we because we expect them to know because we most certainly do not.

Do you have one leg shorter because of a curvature of the spine or for some other reason? I have one leg slightly shorter than the other from my teenage years, nothing was done about it and my body coped exceedingly well adapting and I had no problems until recently, what with age and the spine "condensing".

I hope your physio sessions start soon and you will probably find that, once you have got used to it, an insert in your shoe will help too.

    Luv
    Elna x
