Tramadol and Paracetamol

Hi all feeling a bit more up beat today must be those disco biscuits the doc gave me and the fact my neck feels really good this morning and my knees aren’t too bad either.
Right as I said yesterday was a bad day due to excruciating pain in my neck and shoulders, I have a deformed disc between the C6 & C7 vertebra so I get symptoms like a bad case of whiplash.
Well anyway I was taking Tramadol quick release and slow release tablets all day and it didn’t really do much good so in the afternoon I decided to take some Paracetamol i.e. 2x500mg then after I had the pain almost went within 30 too 40 minutes or so, I mentioned this to a chap here at work who has a really bad back and takes similar pain meds too me and he said that Paracetamol works with opioid based pain meds and enhances their effeteness, is this true?, has anyone ele on here come across this or is the chap just talking rubbish?. All I can say it may be just coincident but it seemed quite effective. :?

    Hi,

I take dihydrocodeine and take paracetamol with them, as the doc told me the same thing.

Thing is though taking al this paracetamol must be taking it's toll on the liver??

    Have a good day

    Janie :)

    Hi Mellman
I hdn't heard of it, but if it's safe and it works :?: :)
I am so glad you are feeling so much better.
One of us needs to ask our Dr if it's opk and if we can do it regularly or not.
Long may you feel better

I was told the exact same thing by both my doc and the pharmacist...that paracetamol actually enhances and sort of stimulates the activity of opioid type analegesics, and that they work very well together.

As long as you don't exceed the daily limit of 8 paracetamols in 24 hours your liver should suffer no damage.

    glad it worked for you!

Hi Janie68 frogmorton and evabuk thanks for your replies much appreciated, well you couldn’t make it up could you there’s me feeling great necks fine knees fine’ish the birds are singing and I’m thinking of me hols in Devon next week and right on Q me right flipper starts to kick off funny but it was growling before I got out of bed, oh well at least the pain med mix worked to some degree but as of now it’s going back the other way if I stand on it for more than a few minutes there’s a deep pain that slowly builds up the longer I’m using it, I would pull my hair out if I had any but sadly I’m a bald as a badgers bum!.
Now what’s the betting if I booked an appointment with my GP by the time I got there it would have cleared up?
Concerning my pain meds I don’t normally take Paracetamol but tend to stick with Tramadol and something called Targinact I think it’s a synthetic codeine it contains something called Oxycodone hyrachloride and Natoxone hydrochloride dehydrate, does Tramadol and Targinact knock six bells out of your liver as well or is it just Paracetamol that does??.

Hi, I've just started on tramadol, this morning I woke up with a headache and the tramadol only helped the headache a bit. So, as I had been told I could do, and I know from my days working as a Care Assitstant that some tablets have a mixture of tramadol and paracetamol in them. I took some ordinary paracetamol and within an hour at most, the headache had gone. I didn't know tramadol helped the paracetamol to work, but it really seement to for me! :):D I do get bad headaches from my neck. I've just googled it and there seems to be no problems. It would be a good idea though, to ask your doctor, as he is the one treating you and knows your situation. Good luck, hope you soon feel better.
    Love Sue
