Hi Andrew
I have OA but I did a search on the net for you and found a discussion re this drug on a discussion board. If you scroll down a poster says one of the benefits of being off this drug was being able to have a tattoo done.
This is the link - http://www.healthboards.com/boards/archive/index.php/t-15167.html
I'm assuming this means you shouldn't do it. Have a read and see what you think.

Hi Andrew
My guess is that as methotrexate (leflunomide etc) suppress our immune systems, any activity that could result in infection should be avoided.
I know mtx puts a huge strain on the liver and the chances of acquiring hepatitis is increased from needle use so I would think very carefully before having a tattoo. That's even if the tattoo parlour is scupulously clean there's always that risk.
I've always fancied a tattoo though too much of a wuss where needles and self inflicted pain are concerned

i to would love to get another tattoo, i hadn't even thought about the ,tx being a problem. i know when i got my lip pierced it has been a nightmare, 4 months on and it's still not healed properly and i'm at the point of just taking it out.
yes arthur is a (insert swear word here!) pain. sorry but it really annoys me all the things we can't do anymore, i'm just glad i can still dye my hair, at least i can still rebel a tiny bit!0 -

Hi Andrew,
Only just seen this post from you, I had a tattoo while on mtx and I have had no probs what so ever.
If you want one, have one , keep it extra clean and well moisturised, yes there is a slight risk but there is with everything.
I had a beautiful butterfly on my wrist and it is a fair size one too.
