I put in for my usual repeat prescription for Eccoxolac recently and was told by the Pharmacy that the manufacturers did not expect to have this available in the "foreseeable future".

Anyone else having problems getting it or is it just me?

    Hi Jemima,

I'm on Etodolac (Lodine) and got my meds on Friday with no problem - I don't recognise the name Eccoxolac though.

    Hi Jemima and Linda

Perhaps they are the same med, because some are available without a brand name, as well, aren't they?

    Hi,

There was an article on BBC news website last night about there being shortages of certain drugs. They can make more money exporting them. There is approx 50 they know of, perhaps this could be one of them?

    Hi Anne

You are absolutely right, I just googled it and out of the 50 drugs which there is a shortage of at the moment, I could only find 3 listed and they were:

Cipralex, an anti depressant, Femara, which is a drug used to treat breast cancer and Plavix, a clot-busting drug.

Anne thank you - I think you've hit on the reason. I hadn't known about that report so checked it out and I'm sure that's what's happened to me.

It sounds outrageous as I've now been given Ibruprofen which doesn't mix with the additional medication I take for other conditions and so I can't actually take it.

Although the report says that DoH is working to get the situation sorted, there's no mention of how long this might take and how long I shall be without my medication.

BTW, Eccoxolac, Etodolac and Lodine are all the same medication so far as I can ascertain.

    Hello,
I'm also on Eccoxolac and picked up my repeat Rx last week. They didn't tell me anything about it being in short supply. As mentioned, Eccoxolac is a certain brand of Etodolac so I'm sure we'll be able to get another brand if there's a supply prob.
