2nd attempt at docs

Have just got back from my 2nd visit to the docs (on the advice of several people on this forum - thank you ) and he has confirmed that I have oa in my lower spine. Turns out he is a former orthopaedic surgeon as well (yay! ) so he knows what he is talking about.
He is sending me for a blood test to check for ra and can't understand why at my age (46) not having had a physical job or played a lot of sports why I have this condition.
He has also insisted that in future I only see him regarding my treatment (works for me).
Am feeling a lot less devastated than I was last week and much more positive as a result.
My grateful thanks to all of you who said I should go back and see a different doctor. Without your advice I would still be totally depressed.

Hi Heather
Glad you've found a doc who has taken you seriously and who will give you effective treatment. It can be such a great relief and weight off your mind toknow that it's not all in your head. BTW, welcome to the young (I'm 43) unsporty and never done manual labour arthritis gang. There's more of us than I thought!

Hi Heather
I'm pleased you've got a supportive and knowledgeable GP! I was told by the specialist that OA and RA were genetic. I've inherited my OA from my maternal side (great grandmother; grandmother and mother all had it). My bloods revealed that I carry the gene for RA too. It's interesting what some of these experts say!!!
At least something is being done and hopefully you'll know soon what has been causing the pain.
Regards

Hi Heather
Oh you are so lucky to have found such a good GP...
I'm going back to my GP again today.. trying to get him to send me for an xray... I've been round nearly all the GPs in this surgery and am back to the first one I saw!!!..
At least now I'm armed with loads of helpful info I've found on this site, plus I'm not feeling too bad today so I'm up to a fight..
Fingers crossed..
Like your GP said, Heather, stick to him like glue!!..
Take care
Love
Christine
