Since I've started MTX I seem to bruise very easily, and every scratch and cut bleeds like, err well, a thing that bleeds a lot.

Is the MTX to blame.....??

Thanks.........Rob x

    Rob, I take MTX and i do bruise easily but i think i always have so not sure it is the MTX. I don't bleed all that much and i have my MTX in injection form i don't seem to bleed all that much.

    I would speak to your nurse or doctors about it.

    Methetrexate can cause your platelet level to drop, as can some Anti Inflamatories (sp). If this happens you may have more bruising and sometimes bleeding too. Also you could have little red dots like pin pricks or a rash, called petechiae. You need to let your Dr. know. Are you having your bloods done regularly. Platelet count will show up on a routine Full Blood Count or Complete Blood Count.
    best of luck

    I get the same bruising on Humira.I know it is this cause it stopped when I had my recent THR and had to stop taking the Humira and now it has started again since I am taking Humira again.Started immediately after the injection

    Take care Tkachev

    I am on MTX - have been for about 8 yrs. My skin is like paper and easily tears - then I bleed like a pig. I also get lots of bruises - sometimes have no idea what I did to cause them. I think it must be part of the disease or the meds.

    I've always bruised but Naproxen is making it worse. All tests ok though. I bleed easily as noticed when I had my first arthroscopy and they cut a vein in my leg and boy did it bleed........

    mxt thr usb hrt im all confused !! :P :lol:

    MTX = Methotrexate
    thr = Total Hip Replacement
    usb = Universal Serial Bus (computer connection)
    HRT = Hormone Replacement Therapy

    Though there are other combinations, these are the ones in common usage. Depends on the context of course. Could be misspellings or textspeak known only to themselves.
