hi anne,i think most of us with oa suffer the same way,i know i do.
the only thing is can suggest is try to move about or move the joints as you sit.i.e when i sit at the computor i try to swing my legs backwards & forwards.i try not to sit for long in the armchair i just have to get up even just stand to stop knees from stiffening up.
this works for my hip aswell.
im afraid theres no magic answers.
hope thats a bit of help.

    Hi Anne

You and I seem to be in the same boat. I have also got OA in my knees, the left worse than the right. What treatment have you had? I had an arthroscopy op. last Dec, after which I was told that I need a knee replacement because the arthritis was worse than they thought. However, I opted to wait for a while because I am very nervous about the surgery. I am managing reasonably well, as long as I don't overdo things, but I think I will eventually come round to having the TKR.

The stiffness you mention is exactly like mine, especially when I get up in the morning. After a car journey, I can hardly walk for a while, but I have a walking stick which helps quite a lot.

    Hi Anne :D

Welcome to the painful knee(s) club!! Dreadful isn't it, when getting up and starting to walk, after being immobile for a time. It does wear off, but until it does it can be a little embarrassing and painful, never quite knowing if the knee(s) is/are going to give way. I have been lucky enough to have one tkr so only have one to contend with now that gives me jip. I also hate the pain I get from the knee and leg generally, often at night.

At least you know you are not alone with it. You can always call in here and we can compare notes and all have a rant about it. It does make one feel a little better about the situation doesn't it?

Hope you are going on ok today,

    Luv
    Elna
The happiest people don't have the best of everything. They just make the best of everything.

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

    Hi

I know how you feel I have OA in both knees too. Left knee is jolly bad and I haven't been able to straighten it for over a year - it's all twisted out of shape. Seeing the specialist on 29th of this month. I'm hoping that he'll say - my god that is bad and operate asap! I know things don't work out that way but you live in hope.

I find it hard getting up from a sitting position and out of bed in the morning. Having OA in my knees has changed my life around big time. I gave up work 16 months ago. Finding the stairs harder with each passing day. I take them one step at a time. How are you finding things?

    Take care
