Hi All,

I went to see the consultant yesterday for my 6 week post op assesment. I was told that the surgery had went well and they had done all they could do. Hopefully delay a THR for a couple of years. He seems to have done a lot of work and the before and after xrays were like night and day. The soft tissue had turned to bone and this along with the impingement was taken away, the cartledge repaired and also the labrum (spelling?). There is still arthritis in the joint but over all he was positive.

Now the hard work starts I was at hydro this morning and also have physio to do, the aim to give me some strength back in my legs and get me off the crutches.

On the downside, my left hip has the same problem so the cycle starts again. But first try to get my right side stronger.

The one thing that upsets and annoys me is people telling me that I am alright now that I have had the op, as if it was a miracle cure. They don't seem to uderstand this is something that I have to live with for the rest of my life.

Thanks for listening and your support.

Anne

p.s I am now over the top of the black hole, hopefully it won't try and pull me in again for a while.

    Hi anne
Glad that things seem to be going well post op. Let me know how you get on with the hydro, as I am going to have some too.
I know exactly what you mean about people expecting you to be `all ok` now post op. I had my THR 6 months ago and it has been a great relief re pain, but I have hip dysplasia and OA and will need surgery in my other hip (either THR or PAO) and like you will live with the condition and its effects for life.
I hope your recovery continues smoothly and that you have some time to enjoy the effects before you need further op`s x.

    Hi NB,

I had hydro last year and I find it easier than physio. The water supports your weight so you can do more in the pool than out. This time it's a combo of both.

If you can get hydro I would recomend it.

    I havent had my 6 week check yet(Monday 7th).

My left hip is also damaged and I expect to have that replaced eventually but at the moment I am feeling great.I have had R.A for 10 years and I am sick of it so I am grabbing a piece of the action while I can.It might only last a little while. When I was really bad I longed to be able to do the small things in life, wash myself, dress myself, shave, take a bath, sit on the ground,go out for a walk further than the front garden, babysit without a carer to help, even have a good nights sleep!I still cant do so many things that others take for granted.
I expect, when I take my daughter to school for the first time(!)next week there will be comments... whats wrong with you,why are you not working, everythings is fine now and deep down I will remember the pain and know that it is still there buried by 20 tabs a day,a piece of metal and a needle stuck in my stomach every fortnight!
Take care and let us hope our left hips can hold out!

    Hi Anne,

You are doing really well and hydro is brilliant stuff, I had 2 months of it every day when they did my back. It is down to the hydro I can walk I think. so good luck with that.

People don't understand always that a new part can never be as good as the one you had. or how long it takes to recover but you will get there and they will learn. Soon I hope.

Your ok, your not in the hole and you will be ok, your doing really well. Take care Cris x

Hi Nearly, nice to see you :D x

Nice to see you too. I have been about but have been unusually quiet for me!!! I like to keep up to date on how everyone is.
