Decision made - what a relief

I have been suffering with hip and leg problems for about 9 months due to the onset of OA. I had a steroid jab that only worked for 5 weeks and most of the symptoms returned.
The Consultant, at a recent consultation, said that he would manage the pain for me until I decided to have a "resurface"
I saw my Doctor and physio today and the Doctor said that he couldn't understand why I would delay an operation when it was obvious that the hip was never going to get better, and delaying also could put strain in other places. My physio agreed with this at a separate meeting.
Their view was, if it:
is painful
affects your day to day life
stops good exercise (my golf)
interrupts sleep
Then it's best dealt with - so I shall go for it asap!!
Any other views?

Hi Chris
I can't really comment because arthur affects everyone in different ways. I think if you want this op and your physio and consultant agree, then it's the best decision for you.
When will you have it? Did they give you a timescale?

Hi Chris
With you all the way on that. There does come a time when you yourself really do become ready for the op on the aggravating joint in question too. With those in the medical profession who are looking after you, strongly suggesting that is the only way forward, you have full support from them too.
I hope you do not have to wait too long for an operation date and then as you are recuperating you can look forward to hours of painfree golf and just generally live life to the full again.
All the best,

It was just refreshing to find a Doctor etc willing not to "sit on the fence" and just say " I don't know what you are waiting for".
I suspect that the fact I have private medical insurance is part of the answer but he seemed genuinly to only be concerned that I get fit and enjoy life as soon as possible. If I was going to be NHS it would have made little difference, I suspect, as it's the timeframe that changes (although I may have waited longer to go on the list)
