Hi everyone,

Had a thr six months ago today and at 35 found it hard, went to see my consultant today to be told that my other hip is on the way out and that there was no other alternatives based on what he had seen when he was replacing the other hip. Not the news I was expecting as I had hoped that keyhole would be an option to delay it for a while, hoping to delay it as long as possible with injections as I am not ready for another thr.

I'm so sad for you, being young with Arthritis is very frightening. I find myself continually worrying what will become of me and how I'll cope with my children. It's so hard to hear them say nothing can be done, your world just collapses. I hope they can find something that will work for you. I was very surprised to hear last week at the Pain Clinic that if my drugs didn't work the Neurologist had a trick up his sleeve to try. I really hope I don't need it but I was so pleased to hear there might be something to help down the line after hearing nothing could be done.

Have you been referred to a Pain Clinic? They really helped me, I have a new outlook due to them.

    take care

Hi collettem, I’m really sorry to hear you have to have another thr, I don’t blame you for trying to put it off as long as you can, my mum is 68 and really needs to have a knee and a hip done but she is also like you trying to put it off as long as she can.

    Hi Collette,

I know how you feel I am 38 and had an osteochondralplasty on my right hip 7 weeks ago. I was told yesterday that it was successful but further surgery (THR) would be required in the future and that my left hip was in the same condtion. At the moment more surgery is the last thing on my mind.

Try not to worry, easier said than done I know.

    Hi
I know, I am feeling very sorry for myself tonight. I think I just getting used to having one done and the being careful with it, and was looking forward to getting out dancing again. Though I was born with hip dysplasia and nothing was done so arthritis has set in. I managed with the other one till it was bone on bone but have been told this one will not be let go as far. I think I will put if of though as long as I can.

Have not been referred to the pain management clinic but have been offered injections when I feel I need them. I had one done on the other hip and it was great but it only lasted four weeks so will try some of them.

I dont have kids yet but I know I would worry about not being able to run after them.

Was reading on line about the stem cell treatment which has been done and successful in 5 out of 6 people in the UK and it removes the need for a hip replacement sounds good if there was a few years of free pain so who knows.

    Thanks everyone

Hi, sorry you are having to battle this so young. I was told I need spinal surgery at 37, it was a huge shock. I understand your feeling down, you have already been through so much. I hope they can hold it off for a while with the injections.

You are obviously a very brave strong, courageous person, so you will get through this!

    Take care

    Thanks everyone

    Hi again Collette.

It's totally ok to feel sorry for yourself. We all do it. I like you am in my situation due to a condition I was born with but is not arthritis related, but as with you it was due to a delay in diagnosis. I acccessed my medical notes recently to see just how much was delayed, real eye opener. Having kids is what worried me the most as only 1 and 3 but the best thing for me really, they are what get me up every morning and smile through the pain, plus my 3 year old knows what arthritis is, why you get it and what the symptoms are, she is very aware seeing other disabled people and kind and courteous towards them and never asks the embarrassing questions some parents are inevitably asked right in the middle of the supermarket etc.

One of the first things besides my children to go through my mind was dancing again. I was a dancer and gymnast and always thought I'd be able to show my daughter somersaults and backflips as was still able to perform them a year before my illness (not knowing then I was in the advanced stages) stupid now thinking I was doing all that stuff, but not my fault I know as no-one ever scanned me or followed up my earlier illness.

But even the way I am now, unable to stand very long, there are good days I can get up for a little boogie with my daughter who always wants Mummy to join her, I sit down absolutely knackered after a couple of minutes but at least it makes me feel I relived my glory. I think often when I let myself get immobile too long that's the worst thing, I try even with the pain to jiggle a bit, my physio says its the best thing as long as it's not anything crazy.

Post as much as you want when you are down, there will always be someone here to help. The chit-chat forum can help perk you up, posts are not really arthur related and help take your mind off things, even if just for a short while.

    take care

:? Hi I do feel for you I was 28 when first diagnosed with arthur at 32 I had my first hip and at 34 my second 40 my third and 50 my fourth ( all same side) it does get to you so know what you are saying, sometimes you just want to scream, but all I try and focus on is at least they can do something for us, \i have friends who have had the big c and some of them didn't survive, I know this doesn't help when you are in pain and feeling low but it's what has kept me going, not to say it works all the time . You take care

    Hi Collete
Sorry to hear that your appointment didn`t go as hoped.xx
I know that you were hoping to have a bit of the `old` life back and be out dancing etc. How is your hip re giving you pain at the moment? Did the DR say when you will need to have your op?
I hope you can have a bit more time without more surgery and get a bit of socialising in first!!
    take carexx

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for hearing my moan. Well after it I did go out at the weekend and after a few drinks braved it on the dance floor first time since the op and it was not to bad bit sore the next day though. I think I was just not expecting to have another one soon or thought there might be another option for a while, but am going to hold out as long as possible and hope for the best.

I know there is people here a lot worse than me

So thanks for putting up with my moan.

Nicola, hope your new hip is going well and the other is not causing you to much pain.

    Hi Collette
Glad you had a night out. I am out with the girls this weekend, not dancing though.
I am seeing my surgeon next week to talk about thing, etc.. My new hip is ok, but my other is playing up, pain/giving way etc.. and the old back is still a pain. But on the whole, better than this time last year. I will catch up with you properly after the appointment and we can compare notes!!
Hope you are out again soon!

Hi, Nicola enjoy, your nite out and hope you get on the dance floor for a bit even if its just a wiggle. Look forward to a catch up after your apt.

eckstardeluxe, Cheers, I think sometimes friends dont understand as they dont see anything wrong so was good to let of steam. It must be really hard on you being a dancer and not being able to show the kids. I have to say on fri nite, I had a few glasses of wine, but it felt good, was scared when I woke up the next morning in case I had done myself an injury. I know it's hard but you are lucky having the kids now.

It is frustrating when you find out it was something you were born with and that all this could have been prevented and worse when you have been so active. This site makes you realise that it has happened to others.

Hope you get some improvement to do things with the kids.

    Take care eveyone

    Hi, JK

I have been following all the hippies and you seem to be doing really well, I was on crutches for the whole six weeks before I managed to let go of them and am still holding on to my toilet seat but time for it to go. My knee on the operated side give me jip for a while after and it was giving way. Phyiso give me a few exercises and they did help but I think it was after the six weeks before I started doing them. There is a lot of displysia going around it is scary. I have started taking paradox oil along with the glus and condritin and it is helping my knees.

Good luck with the recovery. I found that after six weeks things changed for the better so you do not have to long to go.

    Take care
