Does anyone have any medication they have found useful? I take dicroflenac acid for the pain and just recently it has started being completely useless! My nurse reccommended something to do with glucose something, though I cant remember what. Has anyone found anything that helps?

Hi
Was it Glucosamine? If so it isn`t a pain killer, more of a supplement which is supposed to help with cartlildge/soft tissue in joints. Also Chondroitin can be advised for joints.

hi you'll really have to discuss medication with your gp.
i too have osteoarthritis,diagnosed at 40 now 42.
im on ibuprofen, cocodomol 30/500(pain killer)zomorph slow realise morphine, oramorph(liquid morphine for break through pain)ampripyline(sleeping tablets)so theres a lot of meds that can help with the pain.
most of my joints are affected with OA,also my cervical & lumber spine.plus other conditions that go with it
have a good talk to gp as diclofenic is a painkiller (as is ibuprofen)but prescribed to reduce swelling,if your in pain theres better painkillers you just have to keep pushing to get them.
hope that helps.

I have been taking a Rose-Hip Supplement for 6mths now and have had really good results... my pain is reduced quite a bit and mobility is better... its expensive but worth a try.. you can buy it in Boots or TescoOur worst times are always our best lessons.0 -
Hi
I take Diclofenac too, with Omeprazole to protect my stomach. Diclofenac is an anti- inflammatory drug, but you can take paracetamol as well for the pain. Don't take both at the same time though. Leave an hour between.
I also have found that rose-hip supplement helps, and I take a supplement called Osteo-Biflex, which is a bit expensive, ( from Boots) but I think it is good.

I used to take diclofenac but after a couple of years it caused me stomach discomfort so I have taken for some time now Arcoxia (Etoricoxib) 60mg twice a day. This is an anti inflammatory. I am prescribed co codamol (pain killer) but rarely take them because it causes me to be constipated and feel lethargic etc. We are all different though.
I find wheatbags heated up in the microwave help my pain at night or if I am sitting but this is not a medication of course!

I also take Diclofenac but with a combination of drugs. Remember if you are taking this long term you will need Omeprazole to protect your stomach.
I take Tramadol, Amytryptiline and Gabapentin also.
The Tramdol I take throughout the day, Amytryptiline for night time. Th Gabapentin is for the severe problems I had with sciatica and neves.
This is the combination that works for me but not for everyone as they can make you very spaced out.0 -

I take some of the above for pain but sometimes nothing helps. Other things worth mentioning are TENS machine, Heat/Cold packs and acupuncture, all of which can help a little at certain times. Do hope you find something to help.

Hi
I take amatriptylne, tramadol and sometimes diazapam for really bad muscle pain. Part of my problems are that I can't take anti inflammatories as I've had a burst ulcer, which lead to major surgery. I've tried quite a few before I found tramadol slow release.
