Hello Tracey
I was prescribed these patches by my Rheumy consultant because I was in so much pain - I had also been prescribed Gabapentin Which I reacted to rather badly.
I was prescribed the patches which helped me for awhile and 'dulled' the pain - they also helped me sleep, which is a must to help you cope. I was only give 10 mg to begin with, then went up to 20mg and then 52mg. Had a job keeping the things on and also after 3 - 4 days had a terrible burning rash, which you couldn't help because of bathing etc.
You cannot take anything with codeine whilst on patches because you will stop the patches working or you could overdose.
I wish you good luck and hope they work for you. After the patches I went on to Tramadol - slow release pain killer and Pregabelin for the nerve pain. I now find that I only need the occasional paracetomol at times.

hi,i had these too in aug 08 i started off on 5mg then up through to 25 but i suffered the sickness too.but they did kill off a little of the pain.
i came off them in febuary 09,i also had dreadful migrianes & spent 1 day in bed recovering, but likes been said everybody reacts differently,so i hope they work for you.
good luck & i really hope they help you.
luv debsx
ps,ive just checked an old presciption list & i was allowed to take cocodomols 30/500,ibuprofen,amptripyline the same as i take now.
only difference is gp swapped my patches to the morphine slow release & liquid which suit me better.
good job i dont chuck nothing awaybut check with gp 1st before you take anything.

Hi,
I like a lot of people started on 5mg patches , then 10 then 20 , have been on them now for nearly 3 years , not had too many problems with them and they do help with the pain , never had the sickness but was dizzy a bit but on the whole it is a positive thing for me , but each pack is a little different 'sticky wise ' some stick really well -- others struggle to last for the seven days , I cannot wear them on my chest/front above my bra area as they are too strong and cause a rash there so I wear mine in rotation on my upper arms and on my shoulder blades , I have found that they do stick a lot better nowadays than they did at the beginning -- I would suggest trying them , I had very bad stomach problems ie bleeding so was given these patches to give my digestive system a bit of ease -- as has been said we are all different and I now know a lot of people who wear them and are very pleased with the results--- one thing though on the brighter side an elderly lady who I was talking to had been prescribed the patches and asked me how I knew which bit of me to put it on as I hurt in different places as she said she had found them hard to stick on her thumb when that hurt , I carefully explained that as long as she wore them in the places shown on the diagrammes they would work ' all over ' for the pain ,
Hope this helps
Joanna

Hi Tracey, I had them for a while they did work really well, but it turned out that I was allergic to them, I got a terrible rash all round the area plus under the patch, so I had to stop using them, I am on Tramadol 50gr which are very good love Jaspercatxx0
