    Dear Joan,

    I have been diagnosed with sciatica and had it since last November and the whole of the leg can hurt and it does for me but not generally both of them, but I am sure that may be possible. I get a burning sensation down the outside of my leg often as well. The longer I stand and the further I walk, if it has decided to play up, it all gets worse. I need to sit down and preferably bend my head down to my feet, which gives me some relief as this opens up the discs a little more. I am usually not too bad at night, but sometimes I am very uncomfortable. I do have a slight curvature of the spine and with age this is not helping me one jot. :( :roll:

    I am sorry you are in such pain, Joan. It is very debilitating. Lets hope the meds work for you to give you some relief.

    Love
    Elna x()

    If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

    Hi there, the aching sounds like Arthur and often when my back hurts the ache radiates down my leg. Sciatica is a completely different pain altogether.

    You will know it is Sciatica if the pain is sharp and stabbing, burning and very very sore. It goes from across your bum down to the side of your leg and straight down, sometimes into the feet. When it is bad it feels like someone is cutting your leg open. It's a very sharp pain and not an ache.

    If you've ever had a twitch on your face you get sometimes, sciatica is like that but times 100.

    If it feels like this then likely sciatica.

    Hello, Glad you've been to the doctor. I have oa in my spine and the first I knew of it was a pain in the groin and thigh area which got worse the more I walked. I thought it was a groin strain injury, but when it didn't go but got worst I went to the docs and had x-rays and thats what it was. Its because the nerves for the lower limbs run through the lower spine and if a disk touches it the pain comes in the place the nerve effects, like the legs or one leg, though or whole leg! :wink: Blimmy reading this, it sounds like a butchers shoping list!!! :shock: :oops:

    Physio can help a bit, it did for me, but its come back now!
    Love Sue

    Sorry it's come back Sue and to daschund if that's what you have. I can't believe that's me finally rid of it (well fingers crossed) I wouldn't wish that pain on my worst enemy.

    Try to bend over sometimes, it opens up the space the nerves travel through. I used to sit in the lotus position slightly bent over and this was where I was most comfortable.

    Hi, Yes I am fed up with it. I went back to work and thats when it came back. I have too big a S shaped inward curve on my spine, which helps to make it worse by pushing the disks out of place! I'm waiting to see a specialist spinal physio to 'stabalize'' the spine without surgery! Not sure about the sound of that... :lol:

    PS the other day I caught sight of myself if a shop window, with my tummy sticking out and rubbing my back as if I was 6 months pregnant, I'm 54 :shock: :lol:

    Hi Joan, it might reassure you that I don't think this is sciatica. I have OA in my spine and can't stand for very long as the ache becomes stronger and stronger and I need to sit down. Is this what it feels like?

    And I believe it can cause quite a lot of pain in the groin. and in the stomach. referred pain it is called.

    I know hen I had it some time ago, it was agony the only option with that is a physiotherapist.
