just have to get this off my chest then i know i'll feel better am in an awful mood
and it's Arthur fault, he's laughing at me once again.
just over 4 weeks ago i had a flare up in my hips, the pain was awful and
i took painkillers like sweets and the pain knocked me sick which lead to me
losing half a stone in weight which i didn't really have to lose!
luckily i had an appointment with my rheumy and he wanted me to have an ultra sound scan to decide what the problem was, not sure if it was bursitis or synovitis hips
so 4 weeks on my hips are still bothering me but nothing like they did. does the ultra sound
scan show anything, does it hell. i now have to have an MRI scan but what gets me is how
nothing can show up, i feel like a hypochondriac yet again spent enough time feeling that way
when i first got Arthur but no GP would believe me. i won't care but nothing shows up in my blood
either!!
so am asking, has anyone had an ultra sound scan where nothing turned up then had an MRI and
they did find something?
ta for reading my little rants

You're not being a hypochondriac, you're obviously ill and they just haven't found the cause yet. But they will.
I didn't have an U/S but I had an xray and was told I'd hear in 2-3 weeks, got home and the phone was ringing. It was my GP telling me to come and collect a letter & go up to A&E, I had an MRI the next day and it showed up everything but they didn't tell me the whole shebang for 3 months!!!. A Dr I eventually went through the Complaints process about told me there was nothing on my MRI.
At my diagnosis they told me I had severely advanced Arthritis in spine and sacral area approaching End Stage, 3 bulging discs and Spinal stenosis. Hardly nothing!!!!
I hope they get to the bottom of this soon. But don't feel you are being a moaner, you could be like me, have a sh**ty Dr tell you nothing and have you worrying like mad you're imagining things to find a good Dr who gave me the full story.
I hope you find out soon, I will be thinking of you, take care now.

Hi Suzie
Why do we all do that?! Think we are making it up when we know we are not?! We all do it.
Answer - the tests are not that good - so when 'they' see nothing on them or they (bloods) are negative 'they' make you feel like that.
You shuffle off into the corner feeling a shamefull hypochondriac - and you're NOT!!!
The answers will be found eventually - but for some it can take years - can't it Eck?
Suzie take care and moan away on here - we REALLY undertsand!

just thought i'd add, with my non bending thumb and fingers nothing showed up on the scan or x ray they did, so i had an mri done a few weeks ago, i'll let you know if anything shows up!
hope you are ok?

Hi, I'm sure they don't think your making it up, they may well have thoughts about what it could be, but, they won't tell you untill the test results confirm it. They would't be sending you for expensive tests like an MRI if they didn't beleive you, but you'r not alone in feeling like that, I always do, especailly on good days. I'v spent ages explaining to my husband why I want to go out for a walk on the beach or in the woods or do the evening meal. He just tells me to shut up, he understands!

Hi Suzie,
Your not a hypercondriac at all! My bloods don't show anything and yet my joints have shown pa. The oa came up on the x rays so I was lucky but had a hell of a job convincing the gp to send me for one!
I might be wrong here but I reckon it could show more on an ultrasound. The MRI is very, very good but only shows what it has been targeted, A ultrasound is also an incredible clear and good picture but it can be moved around and stuff so it could well show something. Regardless please don't ever doubt there is obviously something going on. I really hope they are treating you as if you have something while they look? I hope something is soon sorted for you. Cris x
Hi Sunnydaze,
Welcome to the site and it might be a good idea to post a new thread for you questions. I used to have days when the oa went quiet, in the 2nd stage (and maybe the 1st) it was active and then quiet for a while. For me initially diclo's were all I needed. For me they worked, and still work very well but maybe its a idea to talk to your gp and ask what they can give you to try and keep the pain down? Enjoy the site and take care, Cris0 -
Xrays and ultra sound scans don't give such a good image as an MRI scan you can see soft tissue on MRI which does not show up on an x-ray, thats why they are doing the MRI, so they get a better, clearer image of whats going on. Its also a 3d image and that helps as well. It also uses magnetic energy, not radiation, which is better for you. So the reasons for using them are simple, the doctor gets a clearer 3D image, which shows soft and hard tissues (bones and organs), and doesn't harm you in any way. I hope thats clear, its a complicated subject about which I know very little, but I have typed scientific documents about that and other Biochemical experiments years ago, before MRI was used very much on humans! Getting old. Love Sue0
