sorry, my turn for a quick moan.
you all probably know how my hands are always failing me?!
i had an mri done recently to see if surgery can improve my left thumb as it still won't bend, but since then my other fingers are all playing up. my left hand (i'm left handed) is worst, all the fingers are very stiff and painful and i think i have another nodule at the base of my middle finger, i cannot bear to bend it as it is grinding and sticking which makes me feel sick, daft i know! so most of the time it looks like i'm walking round 'giving the finger' you know the rude hand gesture?!
any way today i woke up and both hands are now stiff and sore, i cannot get a dr's appointment, although i doubt the dr can do anything. can't get an earlier rheumy appointment as my rheumy is very busy, so have to wait until October, it's not fair, i'd stamp my feet but my knee hurts so it's not worth it lol
moan over
sue

hi sue,im sorry your suffering with your hands.
as you know i am too but not as bad as yours.
mines more the right thumb thats painful & my knuckles are today swollen & red but only a little stiff.then theres all the other joints to contend with
i just use tripigrip for a bit of support til i get my splints sorted.
i cant really offer you any advice but just wanted you to know your not alone on this one.
its a right pain when its the hand that you need to use im right handed.
    take care,luv debsx

Hello, I have painful, stiff hands and the OT gave me splints to rest them in (I'm supposed to wear them for working as well, but I can't do anything with the on!). They do give comfort and support for a while you can buy them in the chemist but they are quite expensive and may not be right for you. Maybe you can contact an OT quicker than the docs and get some help? Or maybe they don't work for you. I had them in the first place, for carpel tunnel, before surgery, but thats another story.

I still have trouble with the oa in my hands, I had the op for CTS which has worked, on my left hand, now I have to decide whether to have my right hand done. :?

Hope you are able to find a way of getting some relief from the pain, as it drags you down so much and stops you enjoying things and with hands not working properly there seems to be so many things you can't do! :(
Take care, love :( Sue :)

thanks, i've tried my splints but not much help.
it's hard because every time i have to pick sarah up the pain is excruciating and she thinks it her hurting me and keeps saying "sorry mum, hurt you" bless her! i wish she would sleep in a bed as getting her in her cot is a nightmare! she's 2 and a half but refuses to give up her cot, i think it's security thing!! luckily now she can climb onto her seat in the kitchen and onto my bed for nappy changing, she also refuses to potty train, she is not keen on growing up this one!!

i had to write a letter for ellie's teacher yesterday and my handwriting was awful, even using a special pen that you don't need to grip as i can't, i wonder what she thought when she saw my scrawl?!
i've just noticed that my left hand is slightly swollen, not much but i think i'll try soaking my hands in some warm water in a bit to see if it help.

oh well, i'm going to take another swig (dose!) of oramorph to see if it helps.

Hi, Splints are not right for you then, but, the hot water treatment should do the trick! Its hard for you both physically and mentally with a small child, I don't know how you cope, I moan enough, still having her must be great fun at times and soon she'll be older and able to be more independant. I refused to give up my cot, Mum told me and I think its true because I have a clear memory of it now! Take care, Love Sue :)

    Hello Suzter/

I'm sorry you are going through such a bad time. Pity you can't get to see an OT and have some treatment on your hands, like a paraffin wax hand bath at least once a week and some exercises.
I could suggest some of the gloves which you put in a microwave. Trouble is, you don't know when you need the heat and when you need the ice treatment. I tend to put an ice pack on the swollen bit. Last April was worse just before I had injections. I bought one of the paraffin wax hand baths earlier this year. After I got the hang of using one at OTs I decided to get one. As you see from my moaning post, I was anxious about the length of time one department takes to contact another or the lack of. Sometimes there is a need to shout a bit. May be it time for you.
Ellie sounds so sweet. She will soon want her grown up bed. Have you tried reading her a story about it. Now's your time to make up stories for her.
Perhaps you have done that already. Anyway, you don't n eed to rock the boat with her especially while you are in crises with your hand.

    all the best

    Hi Sue
I really feel for you. My rhummy said I must never suffer and should contact the rhummy nurses if I was in alot of pain. Could you not phone the nurses and tell them how much you are struggling. Mine gets back to me usually later the same day and sometimes I get to see my rhummy urgently or they offer me a steroid inj. However, I must stress, my rhummy does seem to be rather exceptional judging by some experiences on here.
    Anyway, take care
    Les

the nurse over here always takes a few days to get back to me, but i am having a blood test this morning so maybe i'll sit in the waiting room refusing to budge until i see a dr? actually they'd probably leave me to it!!
