Bone Grafts

:? Hi.. I am new to this sight (please see ‘Say Hello’) and wondered if any of you have had any experience of bone grafts? I has my right hip quite heavily bone grafted four weeks ago during a hip replacement revision and didn’t ask any relevant questions whilst I was in hospital (my main focus was set on getting out!!) I see my consultant again in two weeks but just wondered if anyone had any practical experience? Some questions I have in retrospect are.
Where did it come from?
How is it held in place? (some of it is around the top of my femur)
Does it ‘assimilate’ into my bone or stay on top of it?
I know I should have asked at the time but I was more interested in my new hip components and now my lack of knowledge about the grafts is beginning to worry me!!

Hi Moogie
I see you are not wasting any time, since being on the Hello section. Great! Hope you get answers to your questions on here but if not it is not too long to wait until your next appointment and if you write down all your questions you will not forget any and the consultant can work for his money and answer them all for you. After all, he is the person that will know the answers.
I don't suffer with my hips, more a knee and hands and everywhere else kind of person but there is a chance yet for me too, no doubt
Lots of people have had hip ops so no doubt someone will be along shortly to help you.
I wish you well and look forward to hearing more from you.
Luv

sorry I know NOTHING at all about bone grafts, but wanted to welcome you from me to the forums.

Hi,
Sorry, I only know that my nephew had to have one when he broke his leg badly. They used his bone from the pelvic area and pinned it. But thats not a lot of use to you! I'm sure someone will be along in a minute! Hope you are feeling better now you're home! Love Sue0
