Hello,

I've been skulking around reading posts on here so I thought I would finally join and say hello as I've found the forum so helpful and comforting.

I'm Kit and I'm 26 years old with bilateral funny hips (cam impingement, normally happens to boys and footballers so I'm a bit lucky) - one operated on and one not - OA in both knees and my back and a load of bursitis (literally anywhere you have a bursa it goes itis on me). No-one really knows why, possibly seronegative inflammatory arthritis, possibly just bad shaped joints depends which rheumy/orthopod you ask (which is mighty frustrating) but definately arthur. Had problems since I was 17.

I go through phases of it being fine and phases of feeling awful. I guess I feel more uncertain as things get slowly worse but I don't get any clearer on what I can do to live with it or plan for the future but I'm sure many people feel that way.

Its been wonderful coming on here an finding so many other people with similar experiences

Best

Kit

Hi Kit - welcome to the forums :D
Like you I read the posts before actually posting and found a lot of comfort and reassurance in them - in fact it was quite addictive and I felt that I knew everyone even before I made my first post.
The thing I like about this forum is that you can moan, complain, laugh, cry, joke and just be yourself with people who can understand, advise, support and reassure you when you feel down and laugh with you about the silly or good times.
You don't have to struggle alone when you're here.
love and cyber hugs (gentle ones of course)!

    Hi Kit,

I also have FAI, cam impingement & OA of hips, had surgery 8 weeks ago on my right hip and probably will get the same on my left. What type of op did you get?

This site is fantastic and the members are great, always happy to help and cheer you up when you are down.

    Hi Kit :D

Welcome to the forum. Very pleased you have finally posted a thread. I am so sorry to hear that you have had problems off and on for such a long time and it all started at a young age for you when you obviously wished to be doing so many fun things and still do.

I hope to see you posting often - it is addictive - no doubt about that, for me anyway. :D

    Luv

    Hi Eileen and Anne

Thanks for the welcomes! Really kind

Anne - I cant tell you how excited I am to meet someone with cam FAI. Everyone else I have met has pincer or dysplasia. I had it done by athroscope rather than open and had the impingement lesion removed, the ligamentum teres reattached, a bursectomy, labral repair and microfracture to try to rebuild the cartilage in the acetabulum. Had it done 9 mths ago and I'm not sure how it is really. Much better motion in the hip but still getting terrible inflammation around the trochanter and groin pain/grating. To be fair though it is still ealry days and I wasnt off crutches until 4mths.

How did you have it done? Does it feel any better?

    Hello Kit,
Glad you've joined the forum, it allows us to moan and groan to people who understand what it means rather than drive our families mad with complaints!

From the discription you give, it sounds as if you'r going through it a bit, but you sound a bright and cheerful as well as very brave. Its not always easy to be like that I know.

I'm the right old age of 54, with oa in my spine, neck and quite a few joints including hands. It keeps popping up all over!

I hope you pick up some useful tips and can give some too.

So Welcome to the site, Love Sue

    Hi Kit,

It is an unusual condition and not many people have heard of it, we should start an exclusive club.

Had an arthrscopy on my right hip in March, he done a tidy up but there was too much damage. So had an osteochondralplasty 8 weeks ago. I was told all the soft cartledge had turned to bone so that was all removed, the impingement is gone and I have three pins in place, plus the labrel tears have been patched up. my surgeon reckons he has done all he can do for the moment with the right hip but I will need a replacement in the future. He also told me that there is OA in the joint.

Unfortunately my left hip is the same so will have to go through it all again.

I am still on crutches, hopefully only for another few weeks and I am getting hydro. Still in pain but they haven't taken away the strong meds I was getting in hospital.

Sorry, a bit of an epic but not often there is someone with the same problem.

    Hi Anne,

It is a bit unusual isn't it - particularly for women to have bilateral cam impingement apparently. I think most people get it in just one or pincer in both. We should have a very very elitist club where you have to flash your lumpy hip xrays to get in!

I'm so sorry to hear your hips have been so bad and I hope things work out for you going forward. The op sounds nasty - interesting that the arthroscope didnt do much for you either. The pins sound very painful - are they in the socket or thigh bone? Are you tempted to hold out for a THR on the left one? I think that is my plan. Do you have any other naughty joints (not that the hips aren;t quite enough)?

Sorry to bombard you with questions - just so interesting to meet someone else with the same thing.

    Best,

    Kit

    Hi Kit *waves back*

Welcome to the site and well done for having the courage to join in and participate. I am glad you are finding the site helpful to you.

Arthur is awful and so unpredictable. Your moods seem to be up and down with it. You have a good day and are elated only to find another bad day which gets you down and reminds you that yes, you do indeed have the arthur. It's very hard when you have been active or sporty, taking that step back and slowing down takes along time to adapt to.

I have found this site completely invaluable and also it cheers me up when sometimes I can help others.

    take care

    Eck

    Hi Kit,

My consultant is reluctant to do a THR for a few years yet, I am 38. I think if anything needs done on my left hip it will be the same again.

I also have pain in my knees and at the moment ache all over. Not sure of the arthur is creeping all over my body or if it's a knock on effect.

But, as we all know there are good and bad days and up and down days.

    Hello Kit
I only joined a few days ago too. These people are lovely and supportive, hope you find some comfort here. Frustration I think is the biggest problem, which can sometimes make matters worse. Hope you are having a good day today.
