Hello, I have difficulty with my ironing board, as my hands are a bit clummsy, I seem to wreck a lot of irons by knocking them of the board. Is it possible to that a steel mesh iron rest would be OK for putting an iron down flat. I know its a stupid question, but I think it would be great and lesson the strain on the shoulder joints as the iron wouldn't need lifting so far!

I always seem to have a huge pile of washing these days and my husband has to wear proper shirts to work. My husband is great about doing things to help, the one thing he wont do is iron. When I had an emergency op. He went to work with an unironed shirt on! My neice was not so bad then and she took pity on him and did the ironing. :D LOve Sue

    Hi Sue,

I don't know about a steel rest but I have a thick 'plastic' iron rest in the shape of your iron base and you can put this onto your ironing board to lie the iron on without sitting it upright. It's not actually made of plastic but I don't know what the material is but it can stand the heat. I bought it from John Lewis some years ago but have looked on their website for you and can't see it (although I don't know what it's called  )

The only problem with any iron rest is when you're steam ironing you have to fill it up more frequently as it constantly steams when it's lieing down.

    Hope this helps.

Hi Thanks, that sounds like the sort of thing I need. I am lucky, as we live in a very hard water area, my husband has put a special thin in that converts the tap water to soft water, and he fills up a bottle for me and leaves it on the worktop close to the iron, so its a bit easier to fill. Also the iron lasts longer! Love Sue

    Hi
I bought a new ironing board recently. This one has a wider surface area which is better for me as I can no longer stand and iron. I used to keep my ironing upstairs but I now keep it under the stairs which means I can do it as and when needed. My husband can then carry it upstairs. Like your hubby mine is pretty useless with the iron!!! I can put my iron flat or upright.

    I hope this helps.

Hi, Yes, thats the type of thing I'm thinking of, I've seen one on the A///s site but, I'm not sure if any of them did that, this one has a wide table, I nearly sent for it, but as it is about twice the cost of the usual ones although I don't mind the cost, but if its not no good its a waste of money. I'll look up the make. Thanks, love Sue

hi,i got mine recently from tescos.it has a wider board & the resting bit for the iron is the plastic(as described)the iron then sits in the iron resting bit instead of upright.
this ironing board is a bit easier to put up too as the lever underneath just needs a push up or down,so much easier on my hands.
about £18 so mine was a good buy for me anyway.
hope you find 1 that suits.

hi,that maybe a good idea if you like to iron sheets.
ive given up doing sheets, duvet covers & towels as its too much.
but i may look at that as curtains are a must to be ironed.
but i send them to mum in laws as she does them for us.bless her.
then she's more than willing to do all the washing, ironing, but i dont like to give in,i will not be beaten.

i recomend an iron press, there brill put the on a table and sit at it ,lift top put clothes on bottom and pull top down, dose both side at once and im getting so good my stuff is coming out like its been dry cleaned! :P so quick i can do a huge pile in 40 mins, well worth the money as i was always knocking my iron flying!

That's what I bought about 18 months ago. Funnily enough, it is called 'Joy', which is the name of the company. Got it over the internet. Brilliant bit of kit. Now I can sit down to do the ironing, presssing, it takes half the time and, I don't keep dropping and breaking irons or get burnt so much. It cost me about £100 but it was worth it. Now you know what you want for Christmas.

Hi, I iron the sheets and cover, but not towels - never have as I think they'r better without, but my husbands shirts and my T shirts and those type of things. It takes me a while as I only do a bit at a time otherwise it wipes me out. :) I did try a steam press, but I burnt my fingers quite badly, I kept touching the wrong part, the story of my life!!! :) . Thanks for all the advice. Love Sue

Hi Don't tell anyone, but I quite like ironing once I get started! Mad, I agree, and my husband keeps telling me :!: The tesco one sounds good. Thanks all for the advice! I've already knocked 2 irons off the board in 6 months as its wobbly, actually to be truthfull I've knocked them off 3 times, but the last time, it didn't break, so I didn't need to say anything.
Lots of love and thanks for all the help, Sue

hi,try the tescos 1 as i had a habit of knocking them off the normal boards, the tescos 1 is the 2nd size up about £18 & has the hole for the iron to sit in.
dont make my mistake though of unplugging it with iron still on the board.cause it still hurts
the dents in lamnate flooring have stopped since i got this 1.
    good luck hunting.

Hello, Thanks for all the help, and comments, I liked the one about the iron at sisters. Lucky thing, my sister lives 150 or so miles away, so its no option for me and the post is bad!!/1

I decided to go to Tesco's and set of, its a journey of about 10 miles from here so I wasn't looking forward to the drive, as that is about the time limit before everything gets really bad! In out town, I had to pass a new store thats only just opened, its Foc//s so I thought I'd pop in and see what they had. They had the same one that I was looking for, so I bought it and saved on the petrol and wear and tear on me, which is more. :) I've tried it out and its so easy and quick, I wish I'd always had one that big!

Anyway, thank you for all the advice, and now I'm sorted! :D
    Love Sue
PS it has a hole to put the iron in when you move the ironing and that is so much easier on the wrists!
