Regular patella OA symptoms.

Hi peeps I know I’m probably repeating myself with this but does anyone on here with OA of the knee caps (patella) get these symptoms just before and then during a flare?, it’s odd but just before I get the main attack I get a distinct feeling in the lower legs as if they have been immersed in cold water, also coupled with this is a feeling of numbness and tingling in the feet and ankles, the cold feeling goes all the way up my right outer thigh to the jip, my right patella is the worst of the two.
During a flare.
Eventually the symptoms I described above give way to a feeling of the lower legs being physically compressed, the longer I stand the worse it gets, it can get to a point where I can’t stand up anymore and my pain meds don’t touch it like today, I’ve had a lot of Tramdol but as I sit here my legs are really going for it, it’s like I have a hefalump sitting on them.
Oh one last thing, I’m still trying to get my head round the fact that one day I can have hardly any symptoms and then the next day I can’t even walk about without a stick, is this normal, why in hell don’t I have strong symptoms all the time, I mean if you have raging tooth ache it doesn’t go away then come back does it, and the same for gout you either have it or you don't,I should know I get that as well  ?.

Hi Mellman
I am sorry I cannot answer your question although I have oa of the knees and have had one replaced but I do not get symptoms anywhere near as bad or like yours. I do not get really awful pains one day and not the next. I have never had to use a walking aid. I do hang on to my husband when out and it is troublesome but that is all. I do not take tramadol although it was prescribed to give me a better night's sleep but I do not like the side effects I get of woosiness so don't take them.
I do hope you get something sorted and the pain eases soon for you.
Luv

Hi elnafinn thanks for the reply, I’m not sure if it’s just me, I must be a woos?!, there’s two guy’s at work who both have OA of one knee joint apiece and they don’t get the symptoms I do, makes me look like a wimp, also I’m sure those around me think I am making most of it up, problem is I’m not, I do get weeks of almost no pain and then it goes off on one as it’s at the moment, it’s been driving me up the wall, it got so bad I ended up on Prozac, that helps with positive thinking but the pain is still the same, I live in perpetual fear of another attack, I don’t lose mobility of the joints, ok so I can’t bend down easily it’s mostly the pain, as would be expected it hurts when I do certain things, the big problem is the pain it just doesn’t go away.
Well it’s either got to be that I have a very low pain threshold or it’s something specific for OA of the knee caps, I know I have it quite bad the surgeon told me on a scale of 1~10 I’m a 7 and 10’s when they operate so I’ve been told.
Maybe someone on here with patella OA can put me straight on this I hope.
