Result of appeal for DLA

Hi all, I appealed the decision as I was turned down last month after waiting since March. I received a letter today saying I am being awarded the high rate for mobility, and the low rate for personal care. Can't believe it, even my gp said I wouldn't get it as its very hard to get now. It will help so much as I dont drive, so can get a taxi at a much cheaper rate, for my hospital visits, and when I am able to go on buses I can get a free bus pass (I live in London) dont know if this is the same everywhere. What I want to say is don't give up!!! It seems like its not worth it, but believe me it is, it is very hard to keep plodding on with it, you feel so unimportant, but now I am on cloud nine!!!! Had to share my news, hope everyone is doing ok today, Love Jay

Well done Jordan,
We all know we deserve it but persuading the DLA is a whole new ball game.
Enjoy.....

Thank you everyone for your kind words and good wishes. I hope other people on here who are waiting for their results take heart. It was a long slog, but very worth it. It is strange how they work, they turned me down saying I could do things"in my own time" and didnt need help all day and night. Now they say I am awarded it for mobility as "I can hardly walk! and need help with bathing, dressing and cooking a meal. I dont know if it depends on who reads your claim, but it seems really odd. Good luck to everyone who is trying for this0

weel done on getting DVL. I'm still waiting to hear - applied May, had 2 letters saying that they still making a decision, then a letter to say they writing to consultant at hospital, then a letter to say they writing to OT at hospital!!!!!
the CAB people, who helped me fill in the forms, say that most times you are refused on 1st time and if you appeal, they give it as they think you only appeal if you really need it!!! what a synical view! is that right does anyone know? i do wonder how it works as the people who award it are not medically trained, maybe it goes on points??

Well done Jordon.
I haven't been so lucky this time. I appealed, but no they are sticking to their decision. I can walk 50 steps in 2 minutes so no I won't get the mobility this time, but will get the care component.
I've been getting dla since 2007 for goodness sake and now, I am a lot worst than I was before. I've only got a month this time to appeal. Makes you sick.
The just keep changing the goal posts.

That's great news
I was turned down first time as the Dr they wrote to left the form blank as had never met me.
I asked them to reconsider and sent another report from my own Dr and other evidence and got it within 2 weeks! I phoned to ask recently when I'd receive my renewal forms as due in December to be told I don't have to re-apply! Very shocked but also very relieved as it pays for my childcare which has been an absolute godsend for me.
It just shows you if you fight you can get it, they turned me down yet don't want me to renew :?: The Welfare Rights people said it's because of how bad my symptoms are for my age. They said the youger people get turned down the most as they will be the ones who get paid the longest.
So glad to hear a good DLA story!0 -
Hello, Very good news, these decisions are so odd, sometimes I think they just toss a coin! Now it should help to make you a bit more independant and thats good for you, both physcally and mentally. Take care, don't spend it all at once! Love Sue0
