I'm getting really desperate here, and just wonder what is the longest number of days people haven't "been" while trying all sort of unblocking medications...

sorry to be gross, and hope no-one is offended, but I'm really curious

Sorry Eva, cannot help, because I have not had that problem except on holiday, presumably due to a different life style and senna pills sort that out, so only a couple of days really.

I do feel very sorry for you, though, as it can become very uncomfortable.

I do hope you "go" very soon.

    Luv
    Elna x

Hi, Its hard to say, as by bowels have always been slow and I forget! I know once it was over a week and I was beginning to be worried as it was well into the second week, I'd taken stuff I'd bought etc, but to no effect. :x I was very uncomfortable and my husband was beginning to mutter about 'ought to go to the gPs' 'must be something wrong with you' and I was thinking that too, then I went and a weight, (literally), lifted off me :D . Things are going really slowly for you, and as you have so much discomfort, it might be a good thing to see your GP or Practice Nurse, tomorrow, just to be on the safe side. If you get any watery diaoria, definatly go to the docs, sometimes, if you are very constipated you 'bypass' which means the bowel is full but some of the watery, soft parts get through and that needs medical help.
With luck, thinks will sort out naturally, and soon you'll be fine!
Lots of love and good luck, Sue

i'm not offended either, my longest is about a week, dr gave me movecol (sp?) which really helps, but also if i'm struggling i get dried fruit as it always helps, that and making sure you are drinking plenty, water if possible as that helps 'soften stuff' !!
i hope you get sorted as i know how horribly uncomfortable it can be.

Oh dear Eva................you still not gone.

I think 9 days was my best (worse) time.

I don't know what else to suggest.
You've been given all the 'usual' remedies.

I have a stockpile of tined prunes....I eat 1/2 tin each morning, and actually enjoy them....

Hope you get some relief real soon.

I quess you didn,t go to pauls house then,
i,ve had this prob all my life lazy bowels my nan used to say they used to sit me over a hot dish when i was little,
if its not normal for you to wait to go this long go to your gps you may need an emema(?) are you eating plenty of fruit and veg, and not sweetie thing or puddings.
best of luck, sit on the pot at the same time and think poo every day might help. get some figs from tesco or prune juice out of the tin, eat the prunes as well.

    Hello,

I have some problems in that area but the longest I have been is 14 days, went on day 15. That was very uncomfortable!

When I am constipated it can be 8 or 9 days. But, the doc has said leave it no longer than 5. At the moment none of the usual laxitives are helping.

    Hi Eva

I think you need to see your GP about this problem...you're not being gross. Longest for me was 5 days then I just took a laxative. I seem to be relying on them a lot recently due to the co-dydramol medication. I loathe lactulose .... it really puts my tummy in turmoil.

Take care and may you have a movement soon!!!!

    Eva

Did you try the syrup of figs that someone suggested?

We're with you on this!! Maybe a GP will reply giving us all tips on the best med for drug related constipation! Anything other than lactulose!!!

Hi - Sorry you are having this, its awful isn't it? Longest about 5 days and I was going nuts. I ended up having an enema. Since that time I've had All Bran every am with tons of fruit compote. Just a suggestion but perhaps a half or a pint of Guinness may help?
    I do feel for you....Mx

Hi, Ive just recently had the same problem after an operation, it was more unpleasant than the op! I was given senokot and lactulose solution, which worked, but I found out it was my medication what was causing it. It was a week till i did the deed  not a laughing matter  jk

Hi, Sorry, but I haven't got any more ideas. Docs can prescribe a really, really strong laxative or an enima, which is, around hear, done be a visiting district nurse. Something GPs prescribe, which we used to make us know we'd be in for quite a shift, is Picalax. Used on people like MS paitients! I think you'r right to think about going to your GP. You need a long term solution if your meds are causeing you so much pain. :x
    Love Sue :)

When I was a kid I had a really bad cough which lasted for weeks. One night my Dad said to me to go to the medicine cupboard and get the bottle of brown liquid and that 2 tablespoons of it would stop me coughing. I was just about to take the wretched stuff when Mother asked me what I was doing?
"Dad says that 2 tablespoons of this will stop me coughing!" "But that's Syrup of Figs!" says Mother. By this time my Dad was doubled up laughing and said " 2 tablespoons of that and she won't dare to cough!". I loved my Dad so much and still miss his sense of humour to this day!
