Help, please.

I am about to travel to Spain and need to take one syringe of Etanercept with me for my weekly dose while I am away. As this has to be stored at refrigerator temperature has anyone any suggestions as to the most effective means of keeping the syringe cold for as long as possible. The likely transit time, home-to-hotel is 12 hours approx.

Eileen

Hi I travel to Argentina every winter and take Humira with me, enough for a few months. It takes about 20 hours from the north of England via Heathrow. I use two insulated lunch box's with frozen cool packs. BA will not put the stuff in the fridge but they do give me as many ice cubes as I want. I take a letter from the Rhumy nurse that says I must take the stuff with me as hand luggage. Some airlines such as Iberia will put the stuff in their onboard fridge.

My Humira is sent to me in the nw of Scotland from the midlands to Edinburgh by air then into the normal postal system and arrives late afternoon the next day. it appears to survive ok in an insulated box with frozen cool packs. The Humira has done a lot of flying by the time I arrive in Tierra del Fuego. Enjoy your holiday.

    Hi Eileen,

I had a similar dilemma with my anakinra which I take by injection every day. It needs to be kept at 2-8c. I was a bit worried about how good standard cool boxes would be for a long period of time so bought a vaccine carrier which is small and works a treat. The one I got was from a company called Clinimed and it's the UMP-911 Mini Vaccine Porter. Take a look on their website:

They took my order by phone and I got it very quickly. Have a good holiday!

    Hi Eileen,

I have just started on Humira and asked the nurse about travelling with the pens, he recommended using frio bags which are designed to carry insulin, here is a link to their website.

Thanks for the link. I will ring them in the morning for advice and prices. It should be a much safer method of transporting my weekly Humira, when I am away for a few months.
