Hi Nellie, I have O/A in multiple joints and manage my pain and mobility problems in the main, but it all depends on the person , you could be much less affected and suffer more or be far worse than I am but suffer less... everyone is different in how they manage their particular problems... I am sure the guy you saw has seen people far worse than you who manage ok and people who suffer terribly but display fewer symptoms, don't be too put out by what he said , only you know how you are feeling... sometimes I think professionals forget we are all individuals..
Our worst times are always our best lessons.

Hi, I have oa in my neck, I'm not sure which disks are affected, but yes, I know what you mean they certainly are painful. I have been to the Pain Clinic and the doctor I saw, changed my tramadol to a slow reliease tablet and that seems to even the pain out a bit more. He said that surgery isn'e something they like doing as the problem is close to the nerves in the spine and if anything goes wrong it can mean loosing a lot of functions like walking! I had been told that before so it didn't take me by surprise. I'm sorry you feel so let down. I think the trouble is that we put so much hope into these appointments and when they can't offer what you where hoping for and seem to just push you to one side, its very depressing. I'm sorry you went though all that. Mine also is refferring me to a spinel physio, but I have'nt had the appointment through yet  Did this chap offer anything at all, injections or a change of medication? I'd go and talk to your GP and discuss it all with them they should be able to help you. Love Sue

I have had and am having the same problem as you, I have a degenerative joint between the C6 and C7 vertebra in my neck and it’s like having whiplash all the time, I lost count of how many times I’d been to the GP’s for help, it’s no exaggeration but it took 23 years of complaining to finally get it diagnosed by private MRI, now they believe me at last, but today I went to see the company Doctor as I’m having a lot of pain with my two OA infested knee caps post op and yep it’s started again, “I can’t understand why you are finding it so painful”ARGGGGHHHHH Oh I just flippin give up!.

    Hi Nellie,

That is disgusting attitude he has got there. I think you need to see your gp and ask to see someone else at the pain clinic! Mine doesn't call oa in the neck nothing and has bent over backwards to help me so help is available and he really is out of order.

Gabapentin at the top dose is very good but pregabalin is better and I personally found the s/r diclo's much better than the 3x a day ones. I think Sue says the same about the slow release tramadol? See your gp and discuss it with them but in your shoes I'd be jumping as well. Good luck Cris

Hi, I have multiple problems with my neck and lower back and waiting to go to the pain clinic to see if they can help. I am suprised at his attitude!!!! Very unprofessional!!! Interesting approach to running a pain clinic I would have thought. Just tell everyone they have no pain!

I find gabapentin does help, especially with the headaches. If it doesn't help you either go back to the gp or go back to the pain clinic and ask to see someone else.

    Don't be fobbed off!!

    Take care

    Hi

My GP told me once that she's had patients with OA who hardly ever have pain. I have OA in knees; right shoulder and hands and if I didn't take meds would be in agony. We're all different.
I gave up work last year and I couldn't possibly work this condition.

Don't worry too much about what this person said. You know how you feel and the amount of pain you have to endure.

    Take care.
