HI all,
been a while since my last post and i am now taking 15mg methotrexate, which is working well. :) However, i have recently read up on my condition(psoriatic arthritis) which is very much the same as RA, and on many sites it states that we have shortened life expectancies as arthritis sufferers!
My intention isn't to scare monger so please don't take this message the wrong way, but does anyone know anything about this? Am i just being ignorant to what this disease can do? I'm 42 and have had PSA since the age of 28 and i so want to live a normal life as possible. Apologies in advance if i've worried anyone with this post. I suffer from anxiety as well and maybe i shouldn't keep researching! Take care all. Alison.x

    No Alison
I hadn't heard that - was it on this site because I don't always rate info from other sites.
You know I would post a thread on the helpline forum and get the answer from the horses mouth.
That should put your mind at rest.
    You take care

    Thank you Toni.

I actually googled it and came across loads of articles about mortality rates of sufferers and so on.x

    Hi Alison,

Oh flower you can't look up stuff all over the net. You mustn't get worried by articles and things cus so much is unsubstantiated and can't be backed up with actual real facts. I know cus I looked up something for the sheep and it was really bad...... My vets then explained the pros and cons of information on the net. I also have pa and less I am told it by people I know are right I tend to not listen. Don't you go worrying your self and I am sure you will be fine. Saying that the helpline teams answer I shall keep and eye out for. Cris x

    Hi Alison

There are a lot of sites out there that give cranky information. Only take notice of ARC, Arthritis Care, PAAlliance, and anything NHS connected. Totally ignore the rest and try to worry yourself as stress can make a flare up worse or even bring it on.

As far I know morbidy is not affected, it's just the quality of life.

    Take care

Echo! :) Totally agree, with page.

I know people who are well into their eighties with arthritis and they are doing ok. I also used to visit a 99 year old man too with arthritis in his knees and a few other complaints, but at 99 one would expect that. Sadly, he did not quite make 100 years old but he was ready to go. Bless him.

The bottom line is, to my mind, exactly what Page said.

Hope you are having a happy day.

    Luv

Hi, Try not to worry, if you think about people die from all sorts things you'd never expect, like bee stings and flu' (not just this years scare of swine flu). These figures are worked out using statistcs and they can be used and manipulated to prove lots of strange ideas. My friends Mum has RA really badly and she has for as long as I have known her, thats about 30 years. She has had lots of flares and problems with medication causing her to have ulcers, all that stuff. Now shes 90 someing, gave up driving about 5 years ago, as she has eye problems, caused by age, but she gets about all she wants to on a scooter. Does her own shopping cooks her own meals. She lives with my friend in a granny annexe, as she got very lonely when she lost her husband and her family all lived along way a from her. Now shes happy again, still gets bad days with pain and to see her hands makes mine ache for her, but they have always been like that since I've known her. She goes on holiday and to Church.

I know you could way, ah, but shes lucky, and she is, not many people manage to live as well and as long, RA or not. So, please, please try not to worry about that life shortening thing. We none of us know what the future holds. My neice has a neuro disease which gives her, at 40, ten more years. She said to me recently, it dosn't worry me, lots of people younger than me die from horrible, painful things, I don't have pain, I'm lucky. It made me cry. Shes a happy, scatty, daft girl, longing for next month when she gets her electric wheel chair! Now that does worry me!
    Take care, love Sue

God Bless you all for your messages of understanding and support. It's so good to know you all care and i shall come on here more often for support instead of trying to cope alone.
I shall also stop searching and taking to heart everything any old site states.

    Lotsa Love, Alison.x
