Hi everyone
I've been on methotrexate for a few years now but seem to be
developing an awful cough. When I have an ordinary cold the cough I have with it is dreadful. Does anybody else suffer with this. I feel like stopping the metho but dont know if this can be done abruptly. Any thoughts please.

Hi carmen. I have just started mtx this week but was told that if I developed a cough or shortness of breath I had to go to my gp asap I think the mtx can affect your lungs so may be worth geting it checked out at drs. I wish you well and let us know how you get on. Barbara xx0

Hi
i agree with previous message, get yourself checked as i was told that if i have any problems with my chest then i need to be checked straight away! also, with MXT, infections can be worse for us, as our immune system is affected by meds!!
let us know how you get on!

HI Carmen
Def go and get checked over.
I have been on MTX for around 10 yrs now and I have
a permanent cough, trouble is everytime its mentioned
they xray me and then tell me 'nothing is wrong with your
chest or lungs'.
I have to say that I have a family background of asthma
and chest problems so it may be an inherited thing with me.
But like you, when I pick up a cold or chest infection, which is
often the cough
is a lot worse. It tires me out and reduces my already poor
quality of life, ( I have RA and OA).
I have tried without the MTX for a while at certain times and
the RA symptoms are more prominent so I am told keep taking
the tablets.
But I would if I was you keep on at the clinic or docs and make
sure they take you seriously on this one.
