Hi to all

I have been on MXT inje for a while now and thank god, the side effects of nausa are under control with anti sickness tables ( I start to take them on a Friday eve and then carry on taking 3 a day until at least monday) Anyway, 'arthur' is also behaving - propably due to the wonderful sun in cornwall at the moment, but there are 2 things that still effect me! One is very bad wind!! This starts on the Sunday and doesnt really stop untill Tuesdays!! It feels like a gut rotting wind!! Hope that makes sense!!! sorry for vivid explinations but my stomach feels rotten until the wind has gone, not nausa's, just rotten????
Also, my hair has stopped growing!! All of my hair!! I had to have my hair on the head, cut about 6 weeks ago as it was so dry and horrid, and since then it has not grown!! How do I know? Because I have grey hair on the top of my head and every 4/6 weeks I have to have my hair de-greyed, but that does not need to be done yet!!! Also, I had my legs waxxed about 7 weeks ago, and since then, nothing has really grown on my legs!!!! Ok, saves me money, but I am a bit concerned!!! I hope my hair does not start to fall out!!!!

Is anyone else going through the same things???

Louise (the one to avoid Sundays to Tuesdays)

    Hi Louise

I'm sorry to hear of your troubles. We discuss all sorts of things on here, I'm sure no one minds hearing about your wind problems - if they do, they don't have to read, do they?

I haven't got any advice because I've been on MTX for about 3 months and the only side affects I've had (so far) have been a dry mouth sometimes. I just wanted to keep this post fresh so someone in the know will notice and give some advice.

Hi, Don't worry about the wind problems, its not new here, sorry! Seriously I don't have that medication, so can't give and info about the hair loss, although I can understand why it would worry you. Someone on that drug will be along and able to give you some help and advice. Take care love Sue

i've been on mtx for about a yr and my hair falls out, but i've never noticed my hair not growing. in fact oddly my head hair grows quite quick, body hair is another story!
maybe a strange question but have you ever had your thyroid tested?
i have an under active thyroid, it's under control but i only got tested because my mum has it and she noticed one day that my eye brows looked thin, this can be a sign of thyroid problems. when i spoke to the dr he said it can make your hair fall out, mine has never grown back, i hardly every have to defuzz legs etc! so not all bad!

    Hi
Sorry to hear about your problems. Did you speak to your GP about the hair loss? I don't take this type of medication but sympathise with you. My hubby lost all the hair on his body because of stress (mainly because of bad neighbours - we moved and it grew back everywhere except his head where it grew back in patches). He looks quite good with a bald head so I'm not complaining. He doesn't do stress very well.

Saying that I've found my skin and nails have been drier since I've been on my OA meds - they seem to sap the moisture from some areas of your body internally and externally.

I'm sure someone will come up with some good advice for your problem.

    In the meantime take care.

    Hi everyone

sorry for not replying - if you go on the chitchat forum and find the sit down and have a cup tea link - you will see why!!

Anyway, thanks for replies. I have an underactive thyroid, was diagnosed 6 years ago, so dont think its that as this is now stable!!

I have been to my hair dresser today and she has confirmed it - the hair has stopped growing and is thining out!!!! She has given me some advice, brush the hair, when on own, rub scalp to stimulate it and she is going to ask about shampoos. she is a darling!! She also suggested herbal / vitamins to help, so I will talk to the pharmasist. I am waiting for a phone call from my OT and will talk to her as well as see if she can get me an appointment with the specialsit. Trouble is, I do feel well and 'arthur' is behaving. I went for blood tests on Monday and the nurse said that I look so well, best she has seen me since I started this treatment!!!! So what do I do????

As for the wind - - that seems to have settled this week - but I have started to take my anti sickness tablets the day before I do the injection and this has helped really well - so well that I went out for roast dinner on Sunday evening!!! I have not been able to do that for about 6 months!!!!!

    Thanks for your support

Hi - are you on anti sickness tablets? If not then ask your doctor for them. Then take them the day before the MTX - it gets into your system then and works really well. I use to take them when I felt nausa, but thats too late!! Also, I get a furry tongue, and a horrid taste in the mouth!! For this, I suck ice lollies (read it on this forum somewhere) and this works for a while!!!

I have been on methatrexate for nearly 6 months now and just now feeling the complete benifits. It takes such a long time to sort out!!

    Hope this helps

    HI
I take MTX by injection and have had intermittent problems with hair thinning, falling out etc.

Have you checked that youa re taking the right dose and amount of folic acid? this can really help. Different comsultants seem to have very different ideas about when to take and how much, but I do know that some people on here have been advised to up their folic acid when experiencing this problem, but do check with your own people.

I take 5mg every day except the MTX day, but many on here take it once or twice a week on certain days. very confusing!

    Hi

Yes I have been taking folic acid every day other than day of injection - so many people on here say it has helped so much!! I am going to ring the hospital and see if they can advise me!! I have thought about asking to go down to 15mls, but with the weather changing, am bit worried this will affect me??!!!! At the end of the day I am better, but dont want to lose my hair!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the advice and love the name!!!

    Hello Pysart

I know my hair has thinned out lots. Use to be thick and wavy. My hairdresser tells me that this is a sign of getting older as much as anything. It is also a lot dryer, but then everything seems dryer, mouth, skin.

I have noticed that I only have to use hair remover every 8 weeks instead of weekly. Sounds funny I know, but even the few little hairs on my chest have stopped growing :lol:
This can also be a sign of getting older, it all stops growing there, but doesn't stop your face hair does it?? :x My eyebrows are growing longer and tougher also.

And wind, well that is a also a sign of getting older too, plus the medication. Even my OH has to have medication for his diabetis, and that makes him windier
