Hello, Not feeling too good today. I had quite a bit of neck pain yesterday, but kept going, only cooked lunch. Last night when I went to bed, I couldn't get off to sleep for hours as, my neck was really painful, with a numb tingling feeling on the left side which is worse when I lie down. :? and I could hardly bere to touch the sore spot on my spine . My hands and wrists are swollen and painful also the lumber region of my back is sore. I've had sore, swollen feet too. I have osteo arthritis, the last blood test came back negative but sometimes I worry that the diagnosis may be wrong and I'm not having the right treatment, but the medics seem so sure.I feel about 100, but I'm 54, my shoulders also hurt. Sorry this is a really moany post, but at least I've got it off my chest now.
I'll stop moaning now, love Sue

Hi Sue, wow you seem to be having some real trouble today. Bad days really get me down, it's a sharp reminder you really do have arthritis. I think you should speak to your Dr about the numbness and tingling, this sounds nerve related and anything like that, I think you should make them aware of.
And I don't think you sound moany at all, just needing to let your feelings out. I'd be the same if I was having such difficulties. You know your body and I'm sure they will get to the bottom of this, but I really think you should talk to them about the tingling, just to be on the safe side. I had this before and have drugs now to help.
Take care Sue.

sue in same sort of boat have asked to see rhummy to get checked as have a lot of swelling and pain in different joints so know where u r coming from and please do go back to doc and tell them about numbness and how bad pain is good luckval0

Thank you so much for your answers. I've had an MRI of the cerical spine and that showed a bone spur touching a nerve. The rhuemmy said it was very small and in a difficult place. Today, though its really quite a bit more painful that normal and stays most of the time, usually it comes and goes, like a needle in my neck. I will see the doctor and I do have to ring today to make an appointment with the physio. Hi
When I have really bad neck pain at night (which is quite often) I have one of those plug in sheepskin heat pads that I put on my pillow so its behind my neck and find that really helps...I do often fall alseep with it on which your not supposed to but i've been doing it for years, I hope you feel better soon....if you feel you've been mis diagnosed ask to see another specialist I beleive its your right to have a 2nd opinion, always trust your instincts ...good luck

I'm so sorry to hear you're having such a rough day. Thank goodness you came on here and now you can see how people are rooting for you and hoping you get sorted soon. Don't feel alone or that you are moaning, the forum is a great place to let it all out. Best I can suggest for you today is to try taking it really easy with a hot water bottle or heat pack and your usual pain relief. A tens machine might help you you know. They can be quite useful for the top of the spine/neck area to confuse the brain and so ease your sypmtoms. It would be worth asking your physio if you can have some acupuncture too, it's free from them. It's only a suggestion. Hope you can see your Dr. soon and get some help.
best of luck

Hi Sue,
Sorry your having a bad time today, I really hope the physio's can help you. Do you know if you will get to see them quickly or is a long wait? I hope something can be done quickly.
I know you have said nothing came up in bloods but did your rumo rule out all other things? I just a bit concerned that so many of your joints are sore and swollen. See if you can get your self an appointment with the gp and I really hope its just you have over done things or slept in a bad position. Try and find a comfy place and keep your neck warm, Luv Cris x0 -
Hi Sue
Sorry you feel so awful
Wish I could help, but I ahve to agree with the others - you really can't go on like this can you?
I don't like going to the docs and put it off if I can, if you are the same then, on this occaision I think you should go
Wish you luck and hope it eases a bit
Take care

Hi Sue,Sorry to hear you are going through a painful time. I've found there are days when my pain is almost un noticable then other days when it all comes to the fore.My hand pain has been really good lately but the past few days I've had arm and back pain and it's really pulled me down.I know we don't like keep going to see our GP but there comes a time when something has to be done.I have to go to the dentist tomorrow to have a root removed so don't know how I will manage to lie on the dentist chair for almost an hour while the work is done.I will have to tell him my back is bad.Do hope you will soon feel a little better Love,Breane.0

Hi Sue
What you need is a really good hug.
Looks like everyone has said what I was thinking, especially the heat treatment for your neck. Though if there is a lot of inflammation there, physio would tell you to put an ice pack on it. it helps. Alternate between heat and cold, just like you do for sports injury.
I think if you are having a really bad time like you are at the moment, you need more painkillers and they knock your system for six too.
You need to see a doctor asap, even a different one from your usual, 2nd opinion. There may to be another underlying problem I remember (year last Dec now) when I went to get out of bed and every single joint and muscle hurt. Gosh, it was painful. I had to go back to bed. Couldn't get to work and I never got back either. I was diagnosed with Polymyalgeria Rheumatica and put on 15 mg steroids initially. I am now down to 2.5 g a day.
just to keep me from having a flare up of it. My muscles and joints are weakened by it .
Hope you feel better soon chuck. big hug from joy0 -
Thank you all for the lovely messages, just reading them makes me feel better. I can manage most of the time but, like everyone I get bad days when the pain is a lot worse and every movement hurts....
What slightly bothers me, well worries me quite a lot really, is that its over a year since I had a blood test, and I think, just for peace of mind I'd like to know whats going on. A lot can happen in a year! I don't like to make a fuss though, and make my GP think I'm a hypercondriac! I know I would advise anyone else to go and ask for one though! Also I'v never been treated as a whole person, its always bits and bobs they are interested in not the whole picture, and I feel that it must be easy to miss something when I'm a neck pain, or a carpel tunnel! :?
As I write this I can see that i've got to see my GP and tell her all this, I've got to at least get it out in the open. Its so good to have this sight, it helps you work out with others what you really need to do sometimes. So thank you, everyone. Love Sue0 -
Hi Sue,
Promise me you will get them to rule out some of the other arthritis things cus if its moving about and inflamed well they need to forget your bloods and look at your symptoms really. A ((( ))) and a bucket of strength to get hold of your gp and make her send you to a rumo and get some answers even if you don't want them. Love Cris xx0 -
Hello, Thank you so much for all the care. I will go and see the GP and ask for a blood test, I know how important it is to be sure if it was inflammatory, to get the medications sorted. If not, then I have to make plans with the physio to keep the strenth up in my muscles. Its just not easy doing the best right thing when you don't know what that is! I've rested quite a bit today, and thats helping, its not just the pain its the worn out, tiredness that I hate!
Love Sue0 -
Hi Sue,
Sorry I'm banging on here but you must get her to look at your symptoms and not the blood results cus my 'new' one hasn't come up in any blood test but it is very obviously there and a couple of your posts have made me think they must just concentrate on your symptoms for a bit. have you got the neck strengthening exercises? There are some on this site and I think the physio will give you some more.
Sorry I know I have kept on  but you do have to get it sorted cus leaving you like this isn't right. Luv Cris x0 -
Hi Sue,
Sending you a hug. Why don't you write everything down, every ache and pain so you don't forget when you get to the docs. It is so easy to get caught up and forget to mention something.
I agree with everyone and sometimes the doctor needs to look at the big picture. Sometimes this can be so annoying we all go see various specialists but they are only intrested in their own area and I do believe a lot of the problems are linked.
Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Sue
Sorry you're having a bad time right now, like the others have said get back to your Dr. and get everything checked. Try the heat or cold thing too, anything that helps.
Love
