Hi there,

I am new. I have been unwell for five years and now my joints are affected. I am awating an appointment to see a consultant in a month who thinks I may have a condition called Churg Strauss.

Meanwhile, I am experiencing pain in the first three joints of all fingers and pain in the bunion joint. I also have hand and feet itching together with eyelid involvement. The joint pain is recent and is not worse in the morning or as the day progresses, it is just there most of the day. Some days it disappears only to return a few days later. Is this inflammatory arthritis? There is no redness over the joints but subtle swelling of these joints on the fingers. The bunion joint hurts through the night with a sort of throbbing/stabbing pain. I have asked for an earlier appointment with the consultant but I have been told there is not one. I guess I am concerned that this inflammation is causing permanent damage. I have inner ear inflammation which has left me with tinnitus.

It is clear I have an inflammatory condition which has progressed in the last five years but I wonder if the recent joint pain is caused by autoimmune or if it is the start of osteoarthritis or arthritis. ??

On the fingers, the joints are also sore on the palm side. I am antibody negative and had a recent fource of 40m daily of prednisolone which did not help at all. (??)

Any advice would be welcome.

Thanks so much
Angie

    Hi Angie
Very pleased to meet you. Welcome to the forum. This is a very supportive polace to be and I am sure you will be welocmed by everyone - as someone already said symptoms do overlap.
I am only slightly familiar with that syndrome they are ta;lking about so I hope i don't say anything silly  One of the treaments is mtx? Is that right?
If I am right injflamatory arhtitis' such as RA are autoimune. Usually prednis is very helpful in reducing symptoms. With inflamtory arthur usually you will feel unwell, tired too and often have mrning stiffness.
I don't know if that helped at all, but I am sure others will be along later whoi are far more knowledgeable than me :)
    Take care

    Dear Angie,

First of all a big welcome to the forum. Goodness you do have a lot going on, don't you? I am so sorry to hear this. I understand this CSS is quite rare. It is a shame you cannot get an earlier appointment with your consultant. Could you keep calling to check if there are any cancellations, that is a possibility. It could well be some form of arthritis developing as CSS and arthritis could sort of overlap if you know what I mean. As if you have not got enough to contend with, without anymore symptoms.

Please do join us and keep in touch. Hopefully someone will call in who may be able to help you.

I am sending you some gentle hugs and hope you are able to see your consultant earlier rather than having to wait so long.

    Love
    Elna x(())

If you can lay down at night knowing in your heart that you made someone's day just a little bit better, you know you had a good day.

If your problems were being caused by inflammation then the prednisolone should have helped. You were on quite a high dose.

I hope the consultant can give you some answers.
