haemangioma

Has anyone else ever heard of or had this. Was told by doc it was a bunching of blood vessels, which it is, and he seemed unconcerned about this. When I read my MRI results from the radiology consultant over his shoulder it said I had one at L3 vertebra. Now I know you shouldn't google these things, but I did and it turns out that :
"Vertebral hemangiomas are benign tumours leading to
resorption of underlying bone. They usually involve skull
bones and spine. Vertebral body hemangiomas are
usually found in about 11% at general autopsy, which are
usually asymptomatic. The most frequent symptoms are
pain and motor dysfunction due to spinal cord
compression." Slightly worrying since I have lower back pain, tingling and numbness which seem to be symptoms of this thing. Now very keen to find out what the rheumy has to say about it.

Hi, I have one of these at C6,C7 and has been growing for 3 years, but no one is concerned about it and I just forget really. I don't think they do anything unless they are symptomatic. Mine is where I have a whole host of other probs as well. If it was on your skin it would be a strawberry mark.

I wouldn't worry, but do chat to your doc about it.

Let me know how you get on.

    Thanks for the info, interesting!!!

    Thanks Deb

There's no mark on the skin but I'd read it could be like a port wine stain. Not too worried at the mo but hope the Rheumy will tell me more when she eventually writes.

Hi Babette, I have no mark on the skin either. It will be interesting to see what your rheumy says. Is that the only prob you have at that particular level? It was for me initially and now I have a whole load of other probs. I have read they are reluctant to treat them. I would be most interested to see what your rheumy says!!

    Hi Deb

The haemangioma is at L3 but my other probs with OA are at L4/L5 and L5/SI joint so its just above the area affected by arthur. I get tingly, numb bum and legs and pain in lower/lumbar back but hard to tell exactly where from.... Am thinking tingliness could be related although was told there was no sign of nerve compression on MRI. Will definitely let you know when I hear from Rheumy.
